Areas of Specialization
Creative Arts Therapy
Art therapy is a form of experiential therapy that empowers individuals to utilize creativity and self-expression to work through deep-seated issues, explore emotions, boost confidence, and promote self-awareness. Board certified therapists with backgrounds in painting, sculpting, drawing, and sculpture lead sessions to enhance clients’ sense of wellbeing, reduce stress, promote autonomy, and foster positive coping skills.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Through Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) clients come to understand the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that drive unwanted behaviors. In doing so, clients learn to identify destructive patterns and develop strategies to prevent recurring behaviors by healthily managing stressful stimuli in their environments.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
In Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, clients are guided by licensed professionals to develop meaningful, enriching relationships with their equine partners for profound healing. Through equine therapy, clients develop enhanced non-verbal communication skills, healthy risk-taking abilities, and positive coping skills while participating in relationship building exercises.
A Better Today provides a comprehensive range of group therapy opportunities with themes including psycho-education, process groups, experiential therapy, and more. Residents learn core concepts in addiction and engage in hands-on, evidence-based interventions.
I went through A Better Today Recovery Services from June to August of 2013. Looking back, I had a fantastic experience. All the staff were very understanding and kind. I made friendships that I still have to this day. I am indebted to ABT for introducing me to the program of recovery that still works in my life to this day.
I would like to thank the A Better Today family for the life I have today. At a time when I was at my lowest and had no idea how or what I was going to do, my family intervened with the guidance of Charles, Johnny, and Silvia. It was truly a blessing of which I can never fully repay.
As a family member, I cannot express my gratitude enough to the staff at A Better Today for their love and support they provided to me while my brother was in treatment. The family groups on Saturday were remarkable in helping me understand the disease of addiction and the effects on the brain. Being a part of the family group on Saturdays, I was able to meet other family members with the same struggles and I was not alone, I was also introduced to al anon and nar anon through the family group sessions. I will never forget A Better Today, my brother is 30 years old has 14 months clean. He hasn’t had 14 months clean since he was 13 years old.
There are no words that really capture what ABTRS did for my son and the family. At a time we were most desperate and vulnerable, Charles Anderson, CEO, was available to guide and support us on how best to help my son. It had been a very difficult, challenging journey and the treatment team at ABTRS helped all of us to see what part in the recovery process we played. We were ready to do the hard work with the help of the treatment team and my son after many false starts at other programs over the years slowly became the man we knew he could be. There are still challenges ahead and we have all learned to take it one day at a time and learn to embrace each day for the possibilities.

ABOUT A BETTER TODAY RECOVERY SERVICES - LAS VEGAS
A Better Today (ABT) in Las Vegas, one of the organization’s four facilities across Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon, offers medically managed detox and residential care for adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues, as well as interventions when appropriate.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, the length of treatment varies according to the client’s needs, but residential treatment generally lasts between 30 and 90 days.
ABT’s treatment programs are based on the disease model and employ a wide range of evidence-based approaches as well as 12-step facilitation. The goal is to treat each client’s mind, body, and soul by creating a personalized treatment plan based on an initial comprehensive diagnosis.
Treatment includes group and individual therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), family therapy, and expressive therapies such as fitness training, art, and writing. ABT’s website also lists equine therapy and yoga among the treatment options, though it is unclear whether these programs are offered at the Las Vegas center specifically.
This facility’s treatment team includes a medical doctor, psychologists, and master’s level therapists. In addition, Rehabs.com had polled one alum on the level of support received from the staff, to which the alum gave a perfect five-star rating. Another alum, asked to assess the staff’s level of training and experience, gave four out of five stars.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Pictures on the Las Vegas facility’s website depict a contemporary family home, a large, open kitchen with granite counters, shared rooms with full- or queen-sized beds, a billiards table, and spacious communal areas with leather sofas. Four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date collectively gave excellent ratings of 4.25 out of five stars for the facility’s accommodations and its quality of meals.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the four alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, three were mostly positive, and one was negative. On the positive end, two alumni praised the staff, one writing, “they truly care about you and your recovery and most of them have been in our shoes.” Another alum, Bassy, added: “Have learned [a lot] and thank you.” A third anonymous alum felt that the facility was very clean, which was supported by both reviewers polled on the matter giving it five out of five stars.
Despite positive feedback, there were some recurring criticisms. The anonymous alum told Rehabs.com of “too many fights,” which was supported by alum A.O.B., who wrote: “There will be drama as most of the clientele is also early to mid 20's.” A.O.B. also felt that the house staff had insufficient experience of sobriety, and that the intake counselor had been less than honest about the facility’s offerings.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The single review contributed by a loved one to date was negative. P.G. found the facility’s treatment of their daughter “high-handed and petty,” telling Rehabs.com: “This might have been a great facility, but when my daughter went to retrieve her clothes, they refused to give them to her and told her to come back on a weekday.”
According to its website, ABT accepts private insurance and offers financing arrangements, such as payment plans and scholarships.
