ABOUT ALOHA HOUSE, INC.
Located on the Hawaiian island of Maui, Aloha House, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation that provides a range of services for adults and adolescents struggling with addiction. Since its inception in 1977, Aloha House has expanded its services from offering outpatient and residential treatment to include “comprehensive, family-centered behavioral health interventions for the prevention and treatment of individual and family dysfunction.” Medically monitored detoxification is offered.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
In line with the belief that no single treatment is appropriate for all individuals, all clients are thoroughly assessed to assist in the creation of an individualized treatment plan. This can often include family involvement, in order to fully understand the impact that drugs and alcohol have had on the client’s life.
Unique to Aloha House, clients are considered key members of their own treatment team; in fact, clients are required to sign off on their own treatment plans. These initial plans are then adjusted on an ongoing basis as progress is made toward individual goals — for instance, from residential to outpatient treatment.
According to the facility’s website, Aloha House has two components: a Substance Abuse Services Division and a Mental Health and Social Services/Child & Adolescent Mental Health Programs Division.
Residential programs within the Substance Abuse Services Division provide a structured environment for care that includes group and individual treatment, family therapy, recovery education, case management, discharge planning, and help to develop sober living and support within the community. There are also outpatient services with a track specifically for men and day treatment for those struggling with co-occurring disorders.
The Mental Health and Social Services Division is designed to assist adults in the recovery process with accessing healthcare, housing, jobs, and food through residential, outpatient, and community-based services. The center’s staff is also available to children and adolescents with a range of issues such as bullying, anxiety and fears, acting out, family problems, and attention problems. Psychiatric services are available to those whose treatment involves medication.
Aloha House’s treatment team consists of an array of highly experienced staff including licensed social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, certified substance abuse counselors, nurses, and marriage and family therapists.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Rehabs.com has received a single, positive review from an alum of Aloha House at the time of this writing. C.A.A, who chose Aloha House because it was the only treatment option available on the entire island, reported that the program was a “nice place” and described it as having “good treatment” and being “very helpful.”
Elsewhere online, reviews were polarized. On Aloha House, Inc.’s unofficial Facebook page, five reviewers to date gave the center an average 3.4-star rating, comprised of three five-star reviews and two one-star reviews. One-star reviewer K.M. wrote: “My main complaint is that there is absolutely no compassion or consideration given to the individual needs of the client. My needs were ignored , simply because i dont fit into their 'cookie cutter design, which left me in a state of shock and even MORE traumatized than when I first arrived.”
Other comments on the facility’s Facebook page report more positive experiences. Richard posted a somewhat mixed five-star review. He wrote: “They saved my life. Even though they told me I didn't have the attitude for recovery… So if u go to aloha house be u and do u.” Daniel also gave the highest possible rating but had all good things to say. “Aloha house has given me tools that I use today that I couldve never imagined using ever in my life... I learned alot of things about myself at this program.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Rehabs.com has received just one response from a loved one to date. An anonymous reviewer also applauded the caring, effective treatment, but felt that the services offered by Aloha House were costly. He gave four-star ratings to most of the metrics evaluated, including treatment effectiveness, exercise and leisure, holistic treatment options, connectivity, family participation, and treatment of co-occurring disorders.
Aloha House accepts most insurance plans. The facility’s website lists a number of sponsors for those without insurance or unable to pay for services on their own.
