ABOUT BENEFIS HEALTH SYSTEM – MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION TREATMENT SERVICES
Located in the community of Great Falls, Benefis Health System is a faith-based, non-profit community hospital serving the 15-county region of central Montana. The hospital’s mental health and addiction treatment services provide a full continuum of treatments for adults struggling with chemical dependency, primary psychiatric conditions, and co-occurring disorders. Benefis Health System offers a 20-bed, short-term inpatient program, a partial hospitalization program, and outpatient-based services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Patients admitted into the hospital’s behavioral health unit are typically admitted through the hospital’s emergency room, where the patient is evaluated to ensure that they are medically and physically stable. Once the patient is transferred to the behavioral health unit, clinicians perform a psychiatric and/or substance abuse assessment to identify patient needs and develop an individualized treatment plan.
To stabilize the patient, the individual may be admitted into the hospital’s short-term inpatient program, which typically lasts between three and six days. Designed to stabilize the patient before referring them to a less-restrictive level of care, Benefis’ inpatient program to treat psychiatric disorders combines pharmacological intervention with individual and group counseling sessions. Patients struggling with chemical dependency may receive medication-assisted therapy (MAT), such as Suboxone or Vivitrol, in conjunction with counseling and educational sessions.
Held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, the hospital’s partial hospitalization program involves five hours of group counseling sessions per day. PHP typically lasts between five and 10 days. Benefis also offers specialized outpatient counseling sessions, including individual therapy and group sessions, to help patients gain a further understanding of their addiction and/or mental health disorder.
Benefis Health System’s behavioral health unit is run by a team of physicians, psychiatric nurses, substance abuse and mental health counselors, and behavioral health technicians. A psychiatrist also consults with patients each morning during inpatient care.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The behavioral health unit is comprised of a six-bed acute care unit and 14-bed intermediate care unit. Patients have private rooms during acute care and private or semi-private rooms during intermediate care. Most rooms are equipped with standard or low-rise hospital beds, and patients have access to television and phones in the intermediate care unit’s patient lounges. Patient are encouraged to eat in the unit’s dining hall and are allowed to wear their own clothes while in intermediate care.
