Areas of Specialization
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
Trauma & Associative Awareness Therapy (AAT)
Associative Awareness Therapy (AAT) uses the brain’s innate ability to adapt to change in a healing way, essentially “retraining” the brain to respond differently to familiar memories of trauma or pain.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The focus of cognitive behavioral therapy (also called CBT) is helping people to understand the thoughts and emotions that underlie their addiction with the goal of learning new, healthier and more productive ways to understand and express themselves.

ABOUT CEDAR POINT RECOVERY
Located in Sacramento, Calif., Cedar Point Recovery is one of six facilities operated by Sprout Health Group, a national addiction treatment provider housing its main location, Advanced Health and Education, in New Jersey. Cedar Point Recovery provides a full continuum of treatment for adults struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders.
The facility offers residential care, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and outpatient-based programs. Cedar Point Recovery also provides a specialized program track for professionals, as well as on-site detoxification services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To identify the severity of the addiction and create a personalized treatment program, clients first undergo an initial phone consultation with an admissions coordinator.
Cedar Point Recovery’s residential program blends trauma-informed individual, group, and family counseling sessions with the 12-step approach to recovery. Topics of counseling may include family issues, parenting skills, legal issues, and vocational issues. According to the program’s website, supplemental therapies may also be utilized, such as yoga and meditation. The average length of the entire program is between 30 and 90 days.
If co-occurring disorders are identified, clinicians may coordinate efforts with a consulting psychiatrist for counseling sessions and ongoing medication management. Once a client completes the residential program, they may be referred to PHP or an outpatient program to continue treatment.
PHP may offer the same treatment curriculum as the residential program, yet it allows clients to return home each evening after daily programming. Both this and Cedar Point Recovery’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) require clients to attend about six to eight hours of programming.
Once a client completes IOP, case managers help them form an effective aftercare plan to promote relapse prevention. Mandatory monitoring services may also be available to professionals who require this service upon discharge.
Under the direction of a chief operating officer, who is also a Ph.D. level clinical psychologist, Cedar Point Recovery’s treatment team is comprised of a master’s level counselor, a case manager, a dietician, and support staff. The program offers an intimate staff-to-client ratio of 3:1.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Cedar Point Recovery offers a luxurious, homelike facility. Clients enjoy private rooms, spacious communal areas, private bathrooms, outdoor patio areas, and access to an on-site pool. Clients also enjoy customized meals of their nutritional and dietary preferences, and residents have access to nearby exercise facilities.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing, 11 alumni have provided feedback for Cedar Point Recovery to Rehabs.com, and most reviews are enthusiastically positive. Of the nine who supplied star ratings, all awarded five out of five for treatment effectiveness and accommodations.
Additional praise went to staff support, and most indicated that they would recommend treatment. “They make your stay as comfortable as possible,” wrote Joshua, and K.M. said, “The accommodations are great and the food is fantastic, but it’s the quality of care that really puts them above the rest!”
One reviewer indicated disapproval for the program. D.C. simply wrote: “Worst rehab. A total joke.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Rehabs.com has received very limited feedback from loved ones, but one family member reported a negative experience. Leanne, the daughter of a client, gave one out of five stars for most aspects of the program, including the qualifications of the staff and their level of support. “If you truly have a loved one that you care about and want them to get drug and alcohol addiction help this is the worst place to send them,” she wrote.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Feedback provided to Rehabs.com by five staffers at this facility offered high ratings to date. Naturally, they commented on the staff’s level of care, but many also noted that it was a safe, serene environment. R.W. listed “Catering to the preferential needs of every guest with a cruise ship mentality” as a weakness but also said, “The environment is immersed in a culture of compassion, care, and trust; providing guests with unlimited opportunities to grow at a pace that is manageable to the individual.”
Costs are $16,500 per month. Cedar Point Recovery accepts private insurance, and the facility’s intake coordinator can help clients understand their level of insurance coverage, any out-of-pocket costs, and locate third-party financing options, if necessary.
