Areas of Specialization
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.

ABOUT CEDAR POINT RETREAT
Located in Folsom, Calif., 23 miles northeast of Sacramento, Cedar Point Retreat provides residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and outpatient-based programs for adults and adolescents struggling with chemical dependency. The facility also offers treatment for individuals struggling with an eating disorder and a specialized program for professionals. One of six facilities operated by Sprout Health Group, which includes Advanced Health and Education in Eatontown, N.J., Cedar Point Retreat offers detoxification services on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Before admission, clients participate in an initial assessment via phone to help clinicians determine an appropriate level of care. Once assessed upon intake, clinicians can begin forming an individualized plan of care. If a client requires a structured, supportive environment to acquire and sustain sobriety, clinicians may refer them to the residential program for which the average length of stay is between 30 and 90 days.
Cedar Point Retreat’s programming combines evidence-based treatment methods, 12-step participation, and holistic treatments. During residential treatment, clients participate in individual and group counseling sessions to address any co-occurring mental health disorders. To help modify adverse reactions to traumatic events and address irrational thinking, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) sessions cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), or solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) may also be utilized.
As a program based on 12-step principles and practices, clients may attend 12-step meetings and perform associated “step-work.” Cedar Point Retreat also facilitates a family program for loved ones, which could include family therapy and support groups. Along with evidence-based treatments, Cedar Point Retreat incorporates a range of holistic treatment methods into core programming. These may include outdoor therapy, exercise and gym classes, yoga, and guided meditation.
Once a client completes the residential program, they may be referred to PHP or the facility’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) to utilize as “step-down” aftercare services. As a common practice, the frequency of outpatient sessions is determined by the individual needs of each client but typically last six to eight hours each day. In addition, Cedar Point Retreat may offer ongoing monitoring services for professionals, which is typically required to satisfy issues of relicensing and recertification.
Cedar Point Retreat’s treatment team is comprised of a Ph.D. level clinical psychologist, a master’s level counselor, a case manager, a dietician, and support staff. The program offers an intimate staff-to-client ratio of 3:1.
