Creekside Retreat Philosophy

Creekside utilizes a "3 Prong" approach; Cognitive Behavioral Therapies provided in group and individual sessions, an introduction to the 12 Steps, and an array of Holistic Therapies, including Equine Assisted Therapy, Psychodrama Psychotherapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Massage Therapy, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Group Fitness, and Mindfulness Based Therapies. All of this, along with our award-winning chef and beautiful 100+ acre horse farm nestled in the serene foothills of southern Tennessee come together to create the "Creekside Experience."

Areas of Specialization

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a highly specific, research-validated form of therapy that can help people overcome traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. With EMDR, a trained practitioner uses bilateral stimulation, eye movement and touch to stimulate parts of the brain as a patient recounts certain experiences and memories as a way to more thoroughly process uncomfortable, painful feelings.

  • Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

Rehabs.com Editorial Review

Review by Rehabs.com Contributors

From a 100-acre horse farm in the foothills of the Appalachians in southern Tennessee, Creekside Retreat offers residential and outpatient care for men aged 21+ who are struggling with dual diagnosis.

Treatment is available for men from Tennessee or anywhere in the South.

Each client follows an individualized treatment plan that’s based on observations made during an initial assessment.

Programs draw from a broad range of modalities: the center offers an introduction to the 12-Steps, as well as evidence-based therapies — including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), and rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) — and, finally, an extensive array of holistic therapies. Foremost among the center’s holistic options is the equine-assisted psychotherapy program, a central part of treatment. Though clients do not ride the center’s horses, each client builds a relationship with a particular horse over the course of treatment, in the process learning how to trust others and understand his own behavior, among other things. The center also offers art, music, and psychodrama therapy; massage, yoga, Tai Chi, and Qigong.

Dedicated programs cater to LGBT clients and executives.

Outpatient options include an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and general outpatient care.

Staff includes a social worker; a therapist who’s certified as an equine specialist; music, psychodrama, and art therapists; a recreational therapist; and fitness instructors. The center also has a certified therapy dog.

This is a 12-bed facility with some private rooms. As well as the structured holistic activities detailed above, clients have access to extensive outdoors space for hiking, walking, and running. The residential and treatment facility is an elegant Southern mansion complete with porches, and much of the food served at the facility is grown on-site.

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff.

Treatment costs $900 per day, $27,000 per month, and $72,000 for 90 days. The center is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna.
