ABOUT DEACONESS CROSS POINTE

Founded in 1892, Deaconess Health System is comprised of six hospitals in Southern Indiana. Deaconess Cross Pointe, the behavioral branch, serves youth and adults struggling with emotional and mental health issues, as well as substance abuse. Treatment is provided through both inpatient and outpatient programming, and detoxification services are provided on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Deaconess’ acute inpatient treatment is designed to provide stabilization and short-term care for adolescents and adults struggling with serious mental illness or issues related to detoxification. Upon admission, clients are evaluated by a multidisciplinary treatment team that uses findings to recommend a plan for care and discharge.

Once stabilized, adult clients who received inpatient care may move on to the intensive outpatient program (IOP). The program approaches addiction as a disease and uses a variety of treatment modalities. Clients receive individual case management services and participate in a mix of group counseling, family counseling, relapse prevention, addiction education, specialized treatment for co-occurring disorders (if needed), and 12-step meetings within the local recovery community.

Duration of IOP care varies by client, but most people remain in treatment for six weeks. Program sessions are held three evenings per week.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, the center employs a staff of psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, master’s level therapists, and case managers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Inpatient care and outpatient services are offered at separate but nearby locations. The inpatient facility can accommodate up to 53 clients at a time. While few details about the facility itself are available, three Rehabs.com survey respondents (two alumni and one loved one) gave the facility’s accommodations two five-star ratings and a four-star rating.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Three alumni polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided near-perfect ratings for Cross Pointe’s meals and cleanliness, and noted that they would recommend the facility to others. They rated the staff’s level of experience and training four and five out of five stars, the holistic treatment offerings five stars, and exercise and leisure options three and four stars. Though clients criticized the facility’s inability to treat eating disorders and limited exercise time, they generally praised the facility’s staff and treatment.

On Google, 16 reviews to date gave Cross Pointe much more mixed reviews, with an average recommendation of 2.6 out of five stars.[1] While positive reviewers left no remarks, negative reviewers complained of poor communications during calls, misgendering of transgender clients, and poor treatment from staff. Reviewer Mark wrote: “Place reminds you of county jail.” One Yelp and two Healthgrove reviews to date echoed the negative reviews, rating Cross Pointe only one star out of five.[2] [3]

Caring staff that was very helpful when needed, not to crowded, made sure everyone got to speak during group. Not enough exercise time, too much time spent sitting. The treatment given is a variety of regiments that include group, some exercise, meals in a different area so you feel like you're getting out on a normal day, and a wide variety of activities to help you process through whatever you are going through.

They do not deal with eating disorders. Peroid. As the only mental health facility in this area it seems rational to me that they might consider it beneficial in a city with 200,000 people. I would recommend if someone is going for solely addiction and nothing else!
