Family Health Center - Toutle River Campus Philosophy

Drug Abuse Prevention Center – Toutle River Campus provides substance abuse treatment for adults, including long-term residential rehabilitation and intensive inpatient care. Treatment at Toutle River is based on the Therapeutic Communities model, and includes assessments, evaluations and relapse prevention programs. DAPC treatment options promote personal responsibility and contribution to the community of fellow patients.

Areas of Specialization

  • Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

ABOUT FAMILY HEALTH CENTER – TOUTLE RIVER CAMPUS

Located in a secluded and pristine area of Kelso, Wash., the Family Health Center’s Toutle River Campus is an addiction treatment center that provides an intensive residential inpatient program for adult men and women. This facility used to be operated by the Drug Abuse Prevention Center (DAPC), but in 2015, DAPC became a division of Family Health Center.

The Family Health Center is a nonprofit community health organization with a few clinics throughout Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, and Pacific counties. In addition to offering behavioral health, Family Health Center has family planning, prenatal care, dental services, health insurance, and specialty hospital care.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The intensive residential program typically lasts 30 days, and includes brief counseling and medication management. Treatment is heavily based on community contributions and personal responsibility. According to its website, Family Health Center clients are encouraged to act as positive role models for future clients.

The remote physical setting plays a large role in treatment. The facility’s website reports that treatment must be in a safe, calm, and distraction-free setting in order for clients to heal.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Currently, the facility's website lists four members of the behavioral health team at the Toutle River Campus. Three are chemical dependency professionals (CDP) and one is a chemical dependency professional trainee (CDP-T).

Short biographies for two of the CDP's show they have a total of 12 years of direct experience in the field of chemical dependency.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Toutle River Campus is located nine miles from the nearest city and 4 miles from the closest highway. Other than that, there is no information provided on the facility's website regarding its living arrangements and related offerings.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
