Home With A Heart Philosophy
The Home With A Heart is a cost-free residential substance abuse treatment center for chemically-dependent men struggling with addiction. Utilizing a Christ-centered approach to addiction treatment, The Home With A Heart offers an intensive eight-week residential program based on biblical principles, daily devotions, and the 12 Steps of Recovery. The Home With A Heart is a non-profit addiction treatment facility and is supported through the generosity of local sponsors.
Areas of Specialization
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

ABOUT HOME WITH A HEART
Set on 29 acres of rural land in Liberty, S.C., Home With A Heart is a cost-free, nonprofit treatment center providing men with a 12-step, Bible-centric approach to recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. The residential rehab accommodates clients who have already completed detox (all men must be medically stable and have at least 72-hours clean to be admitted), and are ready to make a commitment to “being delivered through the love of Jesus Christ.”
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment is based on the theory that addiction is an affliction curable by belief in Jesus Christ. The format is traditional 12-step as it relates to the Bible.
Taking a “tough love” approach, as alumni have described it, the eight-week program offers a core curriculum of Bible studies, Bible classes, and lectures. Group studies and work therapy are the two mainstays of the program. Attendance at nightly Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and/or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings is required and family members are encouraged to attend.
The program is run by peer counselors and preachers. According to the facility’s website, more than 50 area preachers volunteer their time to come and hold daily devotions with the men, as well as conduct bible studies and teach 12-step principles.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Clients are housed in one of two 3,700 square-foot dormitories. The 2,800 square-foot chapel has a fully equipped commercial kitchen and provides space for classes. Clients are responsible for the daily operation of the rehab, including cooking, cleaning and laundry. The facility is tobacco-free — smoking is prohibited anywhere on campus.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The four alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing offered the facility mixed feedback. Two former clients described the facility as a “joke,” but offered no specific info as to what they found unsatisfactory about the program.
The other two alumni, on the other hand, praised the facility for its strong, faith-based program and awarded it four and five out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, its exercise offerings, its cleanliness, and its staff’s support and level of training and experience. “Came away with my dignity and self-respect restored, along with many tools to help me deal with my addiction,” wrote Tony in a representative review.
On Google, Home With A Heart received an average rating of 4.3 out of five stars based on eight reviews (two of which were for the thrift shop). One was from an alum named Shawn who wrote: “I just went through the program and it's just what the doctor order for me God is good thanks….staff I love all of you.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing praised the facility for its faith-based approach, and gave it five out of five stars for its connectivity and its cleanliness. While they did complain that there was a long wait list, the anonymous reviewer nevertheless wrote: “They show that there is another way to living a fulfilled life without the use of drugs. They show the unconditional love of Christ, they can relate with the residents emotional and physical needs.”
WHAT STAFF SAY
Alex, the one staffer surveyed by Rehabs.com who was also a graduate of the program, gave the facility four out of five stars for its honesty, its ability to put client interests first, and its overall quality of care. “GREAT PLACE ITS WHERE I GOT CLEAN/SOBER,” he wrote. Alex did note that one weakness of the facility was its lack of aftercare offerings.
As Home With A Heart is a nonprofit supported through the facility’s own thrift shops and the generosity of local sponsors, the treatment program is free of charge.
