Hope House Treatment Center Philosophy

At Hope House, individuals struggling with addiction are met with compassionate, confidential care that fits to each person’s individual needs and situation. For those in need of withdrawal assistance, Hope House offers detoxification services outside of a traditional hospital setting. For those in need of residential treatment, Hope House offers an intensive two to four week inpatient program, providing medical stabilization, psychiatric evaluation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and medication as needed. Individuals requiring outpatient services are invited to partake in Hope House’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as well.

Areas of Specialization

  • Family Program
Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.

  • Medical Detoxification
Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

ABOUT HOPE HOUSE TREATMENT CENTER

Located in a rural setting outside the tiny town of Crownsville, Md., nonprofit Hope House offers medical detox, residential treatment, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults struggling with substance abuse. Treatment for co-occurring disorders is available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment starts with an assessment to create an individualized treatment plan. Treatment uses the 12-Steps and is based on the disease model. Treatment may include yoga therapy, acupuncture, methadone monitored maintenance, and gambling counseling.

The residential program offers short-term care; the length of stay ranges from 14 to 28 days. Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment and goes on to include an introduction to the 12-Steps, individual and group counseling focusing on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychiatric and medical treatment as required, relapse prevention, and education about the nature of addiction. Families are invited to attend weekly counseling sessions.

The IOP focuses on 12-step treatment alongside other clinical methods and is offered in the evenings, to suit those with daytime commitments.

An alumni association hosts multiple meetings each week, plus a monthly family meeting. The treatment team helps clients with aftercare placement.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, medical and nursing care is available 24/7, and the team includes nurses trained in treating addiction, physicians, master’s level counselors, associate counselors, and treatment aides. The four reviewers polled on the staff’s level of training and experience at the time of this writing gave it an average rating of 3.75 out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Smoking is permitted, and up to three guests may visit on Saturday afternoons. Personal cell phones are not permitted, and all clients are subject to an initial four-day phone blackout, though after this they may make limited daily phone calls. The five reviewers polled on the facility’s cleanliness at the time of this writing gave it an average rating of 3.4 out of five stars.

On Hope House’s Facebook, which the facility can manage, the facility earned 4.6 out of five stars from 20 reviews to date.[2] Sixteen of the reviews were five out of five stars. Many of the alumni credited the program’s effectiveness with saving their lives and appreciated the staff. Alum Chris wrote: “The hope house taught me to be responsible, to start taking care of myself, and a whole lot of humility, as I knew most everyone that brought meetings into us. I never felt judged, just loved..... from the moment I walked through the door! I met some great people some of which I still keep in touch with.”

The seven reviews from loved ones submitted to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing were mixed. Reviewers gave the facility average ratings of 3.83 out of five stars for its family program (based on six responses), 3.4 stars for its counseling options (based on five responses), and 2.17 stars for its holistic offerings (based on six responses). The four reviewers who were asked, on a scale from one to five, if they would recommend the facility, gave an average rating of 3.25 stars.

More than one reviewer noted that the center provided good care, but was underfunded. “A very high quality drug and alcohol treatment facility. No weaknesses except for a lack of proper funding by the county, state and federal authorities,” one respondent wrote anonymously. Yet another anonymous reviewer disagreed, writing: “Bad atmosphere… Not the best.” A third wrote Rehabs.com there was too much downtime, causing clients to get bored during their stay.

FINANCING

They assist in follow up care. Length of stay affordability. This was my sons second rehab not the fanciest place, but he did get he there and tools to use aftercare. He just chose not to use them. He did stay clean for 105 days after his stay which is the most time he's had clean in 3 years.

Concealing daily and able to go to someone as needed. Co-ed...Male/female roaming at night. Need visitations. Need to check patient personal items better. Need more for patients to do. Very boring and makes them want to leave. More phone time to talk to family only. Delivers assistance to residents of that county. Not many facilities available. Nice concealing service. Need to focus on all the hours patients have down time and become bored and anxious.
