ABOUT JACKSON RECOVERY CENTERS - CHILD & ADOLESCENT RECOVERY CENTER
Jackson Recovery Centers is an Iowa-based behavioral health treatment provider that offers a variety of addiction and mental health treatment services. Located in Sioux City, Iowa, the organization’s Child and Adolescent Recovery Center provides residential and outpatient treatment for adolescents ages 12 to 18 who are struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. If necessary, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification services are available through the facility’s 12-bed stabilization Unit.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients may participate in an initial behavioral and mental health assessment used to guide clinicians in forming an individualized treatment plan. Utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment practices, the recovery center’s inpatient program offers individual counseling, family therapy, and gender-specific group therapy, as well as on-site psychiatric and medical care. If necessary, the facility provides ongoing medication management to address psychiatric symptoms of a dual diagnosis. Along with treatment, clients attend a fully accredited school on-site and participate in a range of therapeutic recreational activities. Length of residential treatment varies, though most teens remain in the program for between 90 and 120 days.
Outpatient services include weekly group counseling, one-on-one therapy, multi-family counseling, regular drug and alcohol testing, and medication management. The center also offers a three-session “Teen Intervene” program designed to help adolescents and parents establish healthy family guidelines, discuss peer pressure, develop coping skills, and become educated about alcoholism and drug addiction. Focusing on relapse prevention, continuing care services are also available to program alumni.
In addition to an on-site medical staff, the center’s treatment team includes psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed independent social workers (LISW), certified alcohol and drug counselors (CADC), and a psychiatrist who specializes in treating children and adolescents.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Although specific information is scarce concerning the facility’s living arrangements and amenities, clients sleep in simple, shared rooms in gender-specific wings. Meals are served in a cafeteria-style dining room. Five individuals polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing – a mix of alumni and loved ones – provided an average rating of 3.6 out of five stars for the facility’s overall cleanliness and upkeep.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com provided mixed opinions of the facility. Offering five-star ratings for the facility’s ability to treat co-occurring disorders and the staff’s level of training and experience, one anonymous loved one wrote: “STAFF WAS VERY NICE, UNDERSTANDING AND ACCOMODATING. IT WAS A VERY DIFFICULT TIME IN MY LIFE, AND JACKSON RECOVERY HELPED ME THROUGH IT AND NOW I AM SOBER AND BETTER PERSON.” However, another alum noted that they would not recommend the facility to others, giving a rating of two stars for the facility’s staff support and one star for its individual counseling. “Waste of time,” they wrote.
External reviews for this facility are limited, but the two individuals surveyed by Google provided ratings of three and five stars, based on a scale of one to five stars.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Reflecting alumni opinions, the four loved ones polled by Rehabs.com also provided polarizing opinions of facility. Offering four-star ratings for the level of family participation and the facility’s counseling options, a loved one wrote: “They were great. You can only do so much if a person doesn't want to actually use the help.” However, one parent questioned if the facility offered a safe environment for all ages. “Depending on the age of your child it can be scary. if your child is younger than the rest it may be a rough ride because some of the staff and kids can be tough and they are far from home,” the parent wrote.
WHAT STAFF SAY
The two staff members polled by Rehabs.com also offered mixed feedback. Rating the facility’s overall quality of care with five stars, T.K. described the program as “very patient oriented.” “Treats employees and patients with respect and dignity,” they added. However, the other employee noted that they would not recommend the facility to individuals seeking treatment. “Lack of training for all counselors. Little oversight. I would question if their treatment protocols were best practices,” they wrote.
The facility accepts Nebraska and Iowa Medicaid (Title-19) and most insurance plans. Sliding scale fees are offered based on income.
