ABOUT JACKSON RECOVERY CENTERS - CHILD & ADOLESCENT RECOVERY CENTER

Jackson Recovery Centers is a Iowa-based behavioral health treatment provider, offering a variety of addiction and mental health treatment services Located in Sioux City, Iowa, set in the tranquil Loess Hills Prairie Corridor, the organization’s Child and Adolescent Recovery Center provides residential and outpatient treatment for adolescents (ages 12 to 18) struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health difficulties. If necessary, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification services are available through the facility’s 12-bed Adolescent Stabilization Unit.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, clients may participate in an initial behavioral and mental health assessment to guide clinicians in forming an individualized treatment plan. Utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment practices, the recovery center’s Adolescent Inpatient Unit offers individual counseling, family therapy, and gender-specific group therapy, as well on-site psychiatric and medical care. If necessary, the facility provides ongoing medication management to address psychiatric symptoms of a dual diagnosis.

Along with treatment programming, clients attend a fully accredited school on-site, as well as participate in a range of therapeutic recreation activities. Dependent on the needs of each teen, the length of residential treatment varies, though most residential programs last between 90 to 120 days. An extended-care residential program, called Chad’s House, is offered for adolescent males who require additional residential programming.

Outpatient services include weekly group and one-on-one therapy, multi-family counseling sessions, regular drug and alcohol testing, and medication management. There’s also a three-session “Teen Intervene” program that’s designed to help adolescents and parents establish healthy family guidelines, discuss peer pressure, develop coping skills, and become educated about alcoholism and drug addiction. Focusing on relapse prevention, continuing care services are also available to program alumni.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

In addition to an on-site medical staff, the center’s treatment team includes psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed independent social workers (LISW), certified alcohol and drug counselors (CADC), and a psychiatrist who specialize in children and adolescents.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Although specific information is scarce concerning the facility’s living arrangements and amenities, clients live in simple, shared rooms in gender-specific wings. Meals are served in a cafeteria-style dining room. Five of the seven individuals polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided an average rating of 3.6 out of five stars for the facility’s overall cleanliness and upkeep. Two staff members polled did not rate this aspect of the facility.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com provided mixed opinions of the facility. Offering perfect five-star ratings for the facility’s ability to treat co-occurring disorders and its treatment staff’s level of experience and training, one anonymous loved one wrote: “Staff was very nice, understanding and accommodating. It was a very difficult time in my life, and Jackson Recovery help me through it and now I am sober and a better person.” However, another alum gave a rating of two stars for the facility’s staff support and one star for its individual counseling. “Waste of time,” they wrote.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Reflecting alumni opinions, the four loved ones polled by Rehabs.com also provided polarizing opinions of facility. Offering four-star ratings for the level of family participation and the facility’s counseling options, a loved one wrote: “They were great. You can only do so much if a person doesn't want to actually use the help.” However, one parent questioned if the facility offered a safe environment for all ages. “Depending on the age of your child it can be scary. if your child is younger than the rest it may be a rough ride because some of the staff and kids can be tough and they are far from home,” the parent wrote.

Rating the facility’s overall quality of care with five stars, T.K. wrote: “Is very patient oriented, treats employees and patients with respect and dignity.” However, the other employee offered a rating to stars for the facility’s leadership. “Lack of training for all counselors. The halfway house is not safe for kids. They need structure, meals, sleep and substance abuse treatment. Please, please don't let your child go downhill there! I was warned by other moms, They were correct...kids free to call who they want to of course that is their using friends. My child transferred to a new facility, tested positive for drugs when he arrived directly from bed to bed transfer. He had been smoking a pack a day there and weed. I worry about the other boys there. I am so thankful to see what true substance abuse treatment is. I know in my moms heart and gut we would have lost him there. He is physically healthy again, working on using. He looked worse when we took him out of there than he did 7 months earlier when he went there sad.

Strengths: Close to home, different familities in the area for different age groups/needs. Weaknesses: Cost. They were great. You can only do so much if a person doesn't want to actually use the help.

IF YOU ARE WILLING AND WANT TO QUIT ITS A GREAT P;LACE. IF IT IS COURT ORDERED OR FAMILY FORCES THEM NO MATTER HOW WELL FACILITY IS IT WONT WORK. THEY HAVE A GOOD PLAN TO HELPING ADDICTS ITS MUCH DIFFERENT THEN AA BUT WILL ONLY HELP IF PATIENT IS WILLING.

STAFF WAS VERY NICE, UNDERSTANDING AND ACCOMODATING. IT WAS A VERY DIFFICULT TIME IN MY LIFE, AND JACKSON RECOVERY HELPED ME THROUGH IT AND NOW I AM SOBER AND BETTER PERSON. THIS FACILITY WAS THE ONLY FACILITY I EVER ATTENDED SO I CANT REALLY COMPARE IT TO OTHERS. I FEEL ITS NOT MEANT TO BE A VACATION SO WHAT THEY HAD TO OFFER WAS ADEQUATE FOR WHAT I NEEDED AT THAT TIME.

They worked to make sure that each family could afford the treatment. Lack of training for all counselors. Little oversight. I would question if their treatment protocols were best practices. There are better treatments available.

Depending on the age of your child it can be scary. If your child is younger than the rest it may be a rough ride because some of the staff and kids can be tough and they are far from home. My son did not feel safe. He was one of the youngest there and there for more minor drugs in comparison to others and they did not keep him safe. They should have organized their groups more accordingly. He ran away because he feared for his safety .The food was also awful.
