In Hawaiian, “lokahi” means harmony and balance, and according to the program’s website, Lokahi Treatment Centers’ goal is to provide treatment “centered on personal responsibility, individual dignity, and self-esteem.”
To achieve this goal, substance abuse outpatient programs involve group counseling sessions that identify client strengths and address underlying issues that contribute to addictive behavior. Individual therapy and family counseling sessions are also incorporated into treatment. In addition to counseling, clients with a dual diagnosis receive ongoing medication management to alleviate the symptoms of mental health issues.
To reside in the Lokahi House, clients must be enrolled into LTC’s outpatient program and meet educational, job training, or employment milestones. Individuals involved in the criminal justice system (probation, parole, reentry) are welcomed. Upon completion of the outpatient program, all clients receive referrals to community-based resources and agencies for continued recovery.
