ABOUT OAKLAWN – GOSHEN CAMPUS

In operation since 1962, Oaklawn is a state-designated, faith-based organization in northern Indiana that provides mental health and addiction treatment services for residents of Elkhart and St. Joseph counties, including the Amish. Oaklawn’s Goshen campus, one of the organization’s four facilities, offers outpatient services for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, as well as residential psychiatric treatment for adults.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All clients receive a thorough assessment prior to admission to determine the appropriate level of care.

The Goshen campus offers a number of outpatient substance abuse programs, including a mixed gender intensive outpatient program (IOP), an IOP for women that utilizes the Matrix Model, a program for gambling addiction, and an early intervention program for marijuana users. All programs include group therapy, individual counseling, and addiction education classes, and clients are strongly encouraged to attend a 12-step groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

After completion of the outpatient program, Oaklawn provides a continuing care program, which includes relapse prevention planning and supportive intervention services.

The residential psychiatric program for adults utilizes evidence-based treatment modalities, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Treatment includes medication management, psychoeducational classes, and individual and group therapy.

In both residential and outpatient treatment, family participation is highly recommended, and family therapy sessions are offered to loved ones.

Lots of help and support. I was in Oaklawn for a lot of issues and I feel that they understand you to help you.

Although treatment was successful, it was more from the peer to peer interaction than any staff-doctor interaction or session. I expected there would be more to keep us occupied, but there was a lot of time with nothing to do or scheduled. There was no planned leisure time activities or OT or PT or even exercise planned.

Staff can be empathetic and helpful. However, they are aggressive in gaining contol of people. Some staff instigate some clients. My son is no longer a client there. Rely to heavily on.medication. Is a faith based facility.
