The rejuvenating part of program for me was the beach and pool, bowling, taking walks, going out for lunch, getting my hair and nails done and shopping. I am so very grateful for the opportunity of recovery at Ocean Breeze. I am sober, happy and healthy as I hand my will and my life over to the care of God every day trusting that everything will fall into place when it is time. Thank you OBR.
I am really excited about what happened for me at OBR. I have been involved in another residential rehab program in the past and I feel the groups and classes at Ocean Breeze were far superior. I got a lot of information and guidance from everyone there. Participation in AA was great and I realize now that I must continue to be involved in a 12-step program where I can be held accountable and be around other recovering alcoholics. Thank you Ocean Breeze!
Before I went to Ocean Breeze I knew nothing about AA, journalism, or meditation. Now they are all a part of my daily life in recovery. The most important thing I learned during my treatment was how my mindset, behaviors, attitudes and negative beliefs all fed into my alcoholism. Ocean Breeze gave me a lot of tools to help me start to change and manage all these parts of me which are extremely helpful now that I’m home and back at work.
My experience with Ocean Breeze and all of the staff there was incredible. The concern, the level of care and the learning and growth I experienced really took me by surprise. I never knew treatment could be so much fun and I was very grateful to spend so much time by the beach. The staff of Ocean Breeze truly inspired me to do whatever it takes not to return to the misery I was once in.

Dr. Marc J. Romano, CAP, LHRM, ARNP, BC, PSYD
Assistant Medical Director
I bring to my role as Assistant Medical Director the education, experience, and knowledge to provide a range of services to the clients we serve. My credentials as a Certified Addiction Professional, a Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager, a Board Certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist allow me the knowledge base to pull from many different disciplines when treating clients.
A little about my educational background, I completed my Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of Connecticut in 1989 followed by relocating to England to complete a two-year Masters of Science degree in Clinical Psychology at Manchester University. In the early 1990’s, after working as a psychologist at St. Charles Hospital in London, England, I returned to the United States to complete a five-year Doctor of Psychology Program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hartford, Connecticut. As part of this training and education, I completed a one-year APA Accredited Internship at Nova Southeastern University Community Mental Health Center in Fort Lauderdale followed by a one-year Post-Doctoral Residency program at the Juvenile Court Assessment Center in Miami. In 1998, I became licensed as a psychologist in Florida.
In 2000, I began my nursing career and in 2003 I graduated from the Huran School of Nursing with and became licensed as a Registered Nurse. This was a wonderful and rewarding experience that encouraged me to further my nursing education by completing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Florida International University in 2008, and my Masters of Science in Nursing in 2012 at the University of South Alabama. In April 2013, I became a Board Certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP, BC).
My work experience, like my education, has been very broad. I have worked in many positions as a psychologist, including a court psychologist, a therapist in both profit, not for profit organizations, and hospital settings, a clinical director and I have had my own private practice for almost fifteen years. As a nurse, I have worked in the areas of admissions, utilization review, employee health, infection control, and management. I have worked as a nurse in detox facilities, inpatient psychiatric settings, and on in settings for individuals with both addiction and mental illness.

ABOUT OCEAN BREEZE RECOVERY
Based in Pompano Beach, Fla., Ocean Breeze Recovery provides a full continuum of treatment services for individuals struggling with addiction. The center specializes in treating clients with co-occurring mental health disorders through programs including detox, residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), standard outpatient care (OP), and sober living support.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The center’s admissions process includes a comprehensive evaluation, the findings of which inform each client’s personalized treatment plan. Individuals who require intensive treatment and a high level of structure typically opt for inpatient residential care, which provides 24-hour support in a safe environment. Inpatient clients are introduced to the 12-Steps and participate in both individual and group therapy sessions that employ psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing, the program balances out these traditional modalities with more holistic options, including yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and mindfulness training. Clients also spend time developing life skills that address everything from financial planning to healthy relationships.
The facility’s intensive outpatient and standard outpatient programs offer similar treatment, but at a lower intensity. Clients may attend treatment sessions during the day or evening and return to their homes. There is also an increased emphasis on relapse prevention, which makes the center’s outpatient offerings a good option for clients who are leaving the residential program and seeking step-down treatment.
The center’s staff includes a clinical licensed psychologist, a psychiatrist, a registered nurse, master’s level therapists, a licensed mental health counselor, and a case manager.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
While undergoing treatment, residents stay in apartment-style accommodations that are located within walking distance of the beach. Apartments are fully furnished and include a modern kitchen and outdoor patio. Clients typically share a bedroom with one other resident. The facility provides transportation to the treatment center, local recovery groups, and any medical or legal appointments. Clients have access to a fitness center, volleyball, and beach meditation sessions.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Most alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com were satisfied with their treatment experiences. When asked how likely they were to recommend the facility to others, the seven survey respondents provided an average rating of 4.29 out of five stars. “My favorite thing about this treatment center was the staff and how much they genuinely care about each and every client,” R.J.W. wrote in a representative review. While the facility received above average ratings in all evaluated categories, the program’s exercise and leisure offerings, its level of connectivity, and the center’s level of cleanliness performed best, with respective ratings of 4.43, 4.29, and 4.29 uot of five stars, respectively. Multiple respondents found the center’s beach access to be a fun and therapeutic program component. “They also help integrate us back into society by letting us go out to eat, to the beach, and do fun activities such as bowling and the movies,” Mason wrote.
The program’s affordability, family programming, and holistic offerings received slightly lower ratings of 3.83, 3.29, and 3.17 out of five stars, respectively. Some alumni noted that communication with loved ones was too restricted. “No phone privileges without two weeks of arrival & after that you get 10 mins. with a staff member sitting along side you,” R.M. wrote. And Tia described communication with family members as “next to impossible.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
When asked how likely they were to recommend the facility to others, the nine loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date provided an average rating of 3.56 out of five stars. The highest ratings went to the center’s cleanliness, family participation, and connectivity, which received respective ratings of 3.89, 3.89, and 3.78 out of five stars. One anonymous loved one echoed alumni concerns that there should be “more outside visits,” but noted that the center’s treatment was ultimately effective.

WHAT STAFF SAY
John, the one staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, had only good things to say about the center and its offerings, noting that he would recommend the program to others. “I have worked for other rehab programs before; lets just say it wasn't the best environment… The staff takes great pride in the work we do and that benefits the clients,” he wrote.
The facility’s website states that it accepts most insurance plans. Admissions staff are also available to help potential clients determine their eligibility and calculate any out-of-pocket expenses. Financing for treatment can be arranged through the facility’s partnership with American Healthcare Lending.
