A nonprofit organization based in West Virginia, Prestera Center offers a full continuum of substance abuse and behavioral health services to adults and adolescents through its 55 locations. The organization’s Point Pleasant facility, located 55 miles northwest of Charleston, offers a long-term, gender-specific residential treatment program for men. The facility also offers outpatient-based programs and services, as well as medically-monitored detoxification services on-site.

Before beginning treatment, clients participate in an initial substance abuse and psychiatric evaluation to help clinicians determine the most appropriate level of treatment. If a client requires supervision and a highly-structured environment to acquire and maintain sobriety, the individual may be referred to the long-term residential program. The men’s residential program typically lasts between three and six months. Along with detoxification services, the facility offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) utilizing Suboxone to alleviate the discomfort of opioid withdrawal and help curb cravings. MAT is also available to individuals on an outpatient basis.

The facility residential program primarily consists of a structured schedule of individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Counseling sessions are designed to provide recovery support, promote free expression, learn new relapse prevention techniques, and identify irrational thinking patterns that may contribute to addictive behavior. As a gender-specific program for men, group sessions may also address issues common among men struggling with addiction, such as anger management and emotional regulation.

In addition to counseling, Prestera Center of Point Pleasant utilizes the 12-step model of recovery. Along with attend AA/NA meetings, clients may also perform associated “step work” and study fellowship literature. Residents struggling with co-occurring concerns also participate in specialized psychiatric services, which may include educational classes on mental health, medication management, and ongoing psychiatric evaluations.

To help the transition back into the community, residential graduates may be encouraged to utilize the location’s outpatient program as a “step-down” aftercare service. Outpatient programming involves group counseling sessions, which address recovery coaching, the recovery process, and relapse prevention, as well as 12-step participation. As stated, MAT is also available on an outpatient basis, and Prestera Center allows clients to participate in the Suboxone regimen from six to 12 months.

A CARF-accredited facility, Prestera Center’s Point Pleasant location employs a multidisciplinary team of physicians experienced in addiction medicine, registered nurses, psychiatrists, substance abuse and mental health counselors, case managers, and behavioral health technicians.

Although has yet to receive reviews for the men’s residential program, one anonymous loved one, who went to Prestera Center’s outpatient program for mental health treatment, submitted a review for a loved one who participated in the MAT. Although the facility gave a four-star rating for the facility’s overall effectiveness, they provided more moderate three-star ratings for the facility’s counseling options, the treatment staff’s level of experience and training, and the facility’s discharge planning. “Convenient, accepts medicare/Medicaid,” the loved one wrote.

Prestera Center provides its services to clients regardless of a person’s ability to pay, according to its website. The organization also accepts self-payment, several private insurance plans, West Virginia Medicaid, and Medicare.
