Serenity Light Recovery Philosophy
Serenity Light Recovery is a place to come to get renewed and refreshed to begin a journey in recovery. We provide excellent care in a loving, peaceful, and supportive environment without the institutional or hospital feel. We go above and beyond to make sure our clients’ stay with us is as comfortable as possible. They will be assigned to specific rooms and groups based on their needs and have the option to sign up for additional services for their wants and desires. We offer true individualized care to accommodate each client to the best of our ability.
Here at Serenity Light Recovery, we meet the clients where they are at in their addiction and guide them to the path of recovery. We help them see the light through the darkness, overcome their struggles, and achieve true freedom. Our ultimate goal is to improve their quality of life and empower them to make positive choices.
Areas of Specialization
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
Animal therapy (also called animal-assisted therapy and pet therapy) supports recovery and emotional wellbeing by helping people develop relationships with animals. Animal therapy can be a one-time or ongoing experience.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The focus of cognitive behavioral therapy (also called CBT) is helping people to understand the thoughts and emotions that underlie their addiction with the goal of learning new, healthier and more productive ways to understand and express themselves.
Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

ABOUT SERENITY LIGHT RECOVERY
From a remote, rural location 40 miles south of the center of Houston, Texas, Serenity Light Recovery offers medical detox, residential treatment, and outpatient programs for adult men and women who are struggling with substance abuse and dual diagnosis.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Detoxing clients may be prescribed Suboxone, Librium, and/or Lorazepam to ease the symptoms of withdrawal.
Residential treatment typically lasts 30 to 35 days, and includes a three-day family program.
Serenity Light Recovery is a 12-step facility, though it works to offer its clients a range of treatment methods, providing information about SMART Recovery and Celebrate Recovery and using evidence-based methods such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), biofeedback, and a proprietary relapse-prevention method known as the Trigger Awareness Program. Alongside the standard roster of individual, group, and family therapy, psychoeducation, and medication management, the center offers an array of holistic methods, such as yoga (in group or individual settings), meditation, mindfulness, massage, and nutrition and wellness assessments.
There’s a faith-based track as well as dedicated programming for veterans.
An IOP meets four evenings a week for eight weeks. The center also offers a year of aftercare recovery coaching for clients graduating from residential treatment.
The organization’s founder and CEO is herself in long-term recovery. There is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facility is a Southern-style mansion located on 10 acres of grounds, complete with a pond and plenty of green space. There’s a fitness room, a games room with table football, an art room, a yoga room, and cosy communal areas.
The detox unit offers 10 beds, while the residential wing holds 52 beds, eight of them in private suites. Private suites have their own patio and bathrooms and secure entry, and are service-dog friendly. Shared rooms are bright and airy, some with bunk beds, some with full-sized beds.
Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff, however, secondary review sites yielded unanimously positive coverage, with a perfect five-star average rating based on 27 reviews on Facebook (where the center can manage its own page), two five-star ratings on Google, and a single five-star rating on employer review site Indeed. These reviewers — several of whom identified themselves as employees — spoke of the facility in superlative terms, often praising the staff and the atmosphere of caring at the facility. “Serenity Light Recovery is absolutely gorgeous and filled with loving and caring professionals. This is the perfect place to heal and grow!” J.M. wrote in a representative review on Facebook. In addition, a nurse posting on Indeed.com praised the center’s “spiritual atmosphere.”
The center accepts insurance and private pay, and offers payment plans for clients who can’t pay upfront.
