Located in a quiet residential area in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, 10 miles from downtown Tucson, Ariz., Southwest Sober Living is a sober living home for men who have recently completed a residential alcohol or drug treatment program. The facility provides transitional care in a regulated setting, designed to prepare clients to return to life in their home communities. Detox services are not available on-site.

Residents are required to stay for at least one month. Programs are tailored to suit the client’s individuals needs and maintain the foundations of sobriety achieved during residential treatment. Southwest Sober Living intends to support clients in setting personal and professional goals for the future — and get to work on achieving them.

All clients are subject to drug and alcohol testing and must attend house meetings at least three times a week. There’s also a focus on life planning, goal setting, personal growth, and accountability. Individuals support one another — peer assistance is an important part of the package – as they continue to heal in a safe, structured environment. Each client leaves with an individualized exit plan to help him transition back into society and avoid relapse.

Optional services available on request include transportation, personal financial management, academic counseling, life coaching, individual psychotherapy, behavioral modification, sober escort and companion services, as well as résumé and job placement services. The center also offers outdoor activities such as camping, biking, skiing, and hiking.

The recovery house is staffed 24/7. The house manager is sober, educated to bachelor’s level, and a recipient of the American Red Cross Real Hero Award.

Two of the cofounders have backgrounds in development and investment; the third served for 22 years as the executive director and CEO of the Hedrick House, a sober living house in Tucson, Ariz.

The facility offers 6,000 square feet of living space split between a main house and a guest house. There are seven bedrooms, some of them private, plus five full bathrooms and two kitchens. Other amenities include a ping pong table, a hot tub, bikes, a BBQ, and complimentary WiFi and phone service, plus Direct TV on a communal flat-screen TV. Residents can also enjoy the local gym.
