The Nord Center Philosophy

Our mission is to provide comprehensive behavioral healthcare services that are culturally competent and evidence-based, and that promote recovery, dignity and well being for our clients, their families and the community we serve.

Areas of Specialization

  • Intensive Outpatient
Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.

  • Dual Diagnosis/Co-occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

Facility Highlights

Partial Hospitalization Program - provides high-intensity clinical care

Mobile Crisis Team - provides on-site evaluations

Crisis Stabilization Unit - short stay, 12 beds

Located on the southern outskirts of Lorain, Ohio, The Nord Center is a private nonprofit that offers mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. Substance abuse services are available to adolescents and adults, and include outpatient and aftercare services. The Nord Center does not provide detox or residential addiction services.

Clients may call to schedule an appointment from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00pm. Walk-in appointments are available if clients arrive before 9:00am Tuesday through Friday. For substance abuse clients, there are two intensities of treatment: an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and general outpatient treatment.

The center does not publish extensive details of its treatment programs, but it does indicate that a family program is available, that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are used, including trauma-focused CBT.

The dual diagnosis program is designed to integrate treatment for the mental health disorder alongside that for the chemical dependency. Treatment may include medication management, vocational services, and homelessness prevention services. Treatment is available in other languages and there are specialized services for African Americans.

The treatment team consists of advanced nurse practitioners, therapists, substance abuse counselors, pharmacy technicians, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave very positive, though limited, feedback. They awarded the facility five out of five stars for its overall treatment effectiveness, its accommodations, and its food, and wrote: “It was great.”

On Google, the facility received 3.2 out of five stars from nine reviews to date.[1] The feedback is very polarized, between five-star reviews and one-star reviews. Alum Robert wrote: “They are well qualified and if you are honest with EVERYTHING they will help you and it will work for you!!” Another anonymous alum noted that the “doctors are absolutely horrible.”

On Facebook, the facility earned 3.6 out of five stars from 41 reviews at the time of this writing.[2] 20 of the reviews were five out of five star reviews. The reviewers offered opposing feedback about the facility’s staff and the treatment effectiveness. In a representative review, Sue wrote: “You would think mental illness professionals would understand the potential side effects of such a thing, and would value their patients' well being. I guess it's going to take a PR disaster before anyone bothers considering the what-if's.”

The single individual polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing indicated that treatment had benefited their loved one, and that they would recommend The Nord Center. “I TRUST THEIR REPUTATION,” the reviewer wrote anonymously.

The Nord Center accepts Medicare and Medicaid, as well as private health insurance plans. Self-pay prices are on a sliding scale and based on household income. The facility also offers financial assistance.

Was "treated" to a barrage of abuse by my case manager, the Director of Older adult Services, and my psychiatrist of 13 years at this facility. They don't care for patients who don't use major mental illness as an excuse not to achieve in life. As soon as I left the oppressors at this facility for good, I started to develop a very successful literary business, and have traveled several times to Europe and the UK, as the guest of clients and colleagues.

Rehabs.com collects thousands of User Reviews weekly to collect the most up-to-date information possible on treatment facilities across the country. The opinions shared in User Reviews are expressly those of the user, and do not reflect the thoughts, beliefs, or opinions of Rehabs.com. Per our policies, we do not remove User Reviews at the request of a facility.

Treatment facilities can and are encouraged to respond directly to any User Review, positive or negative. In fact, visitors are more likely to favorably consider a facility that actively responds to criticism (and praise!) to one that doesn’t.

Please leave your Facility Response below using a verified facility-specific email address. A representative from Rehabs.com will vet your response within two business days to ensure it meets our standards for public posting.
