The Nord Center Philosophy
Our mission is to provide comprehensive behavioral healthcare services that are culturally competent and evidence-based, and that promote recovery, dignity and well being for our clients, their families and the community we serve.
Areas of Specialization
Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

ABOUT THE NORD CENTER
Located on the southern outskirts of Lorain, Ohio, The Nord Center is a private nonprofit that offers mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. Substance abuse services are available to adolescents and adults, and include outpatient and aftercare services. The Nord Center does not provide detox or residential addiction services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Clients may call to schedule an appointment from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00pm. Walk-in appointments are available if clients arrive before 9:00am Tuesday through Friday. For substance abuse clients, there are two intensities of treatment: an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and general outpatient treatment.
The center does not publish extensive details of its treatment programs, but it does indicate that a family program is available, that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are used, including trauma-focused CBT.
The dual diagnosis program is designed to integrate treatment for the mental health disorder alongside that for the chemical dependency. Treatment may include medication management, vocational services, and homelessness prevention services. Treatment is available in other languages and there are specialized services for African Americans.
The treatment team consists of advanced nurse practitioners, therapists, substance abuse counselors, pharmacy technicians, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.
