ABOUT THE PROVIDENCE CENTER - ROADS TO RECOVERY FOR WOMEN

Founded in 1969, the Providence Center is a major provider of behavioral health services in Rhode Island, offering more than 60 programs and services. Since 2014, the organization has been an affiliate of the Care New England Health System.

Roads to Recovery is a residential, gender-separate substance abuse rehab program; the women's program is located in the woods outside the village of Wyoming in southeastern Rhode Island.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The women's program focuses on the needs of women in recovery, in particular trauma, domestic violence, work on building positive relationships, and help with pregnancy health, as well as employment, education, and parenting skills.

Each resident follows an individualized program of individual and group therapy, substance abuse education, and discharge planning. Residents also have access to primary care and other services, such as vocational and legal support, and the program provides housing, basic living skills training, and peer support.

Graduating clients have access to The Providence Center's other substance abuse programs, including sober housing and a recovery community center.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff, however, all three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date complained about the facility's staff, citing poor management, favoritism, and a lack of time with credentialed staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however, all three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility one out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities. The center's meals and nutrition received two one-star ratings and a three-star rating.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

All three of the reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date were negative, with each reviewer giving the facility just one star for its treatment effectiveness. There was little overlap between alumni's comments: "Bad food, poor management, and disgusting facility," C.W. wrote, while M.R. complained of favoritism and poor treatment, and Kaye wrote that she had "little interaction with staff," her treatment consisting primarily of homework and external AA meetings.

At the time of this writing, secondary sites yielded no reviews of Roads to Recovery for Women.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Staff posting on secondary review sites had left mixed commentary to date: the Providence Center had average ratings of 3.8 stars based on 30 reviews on Indeed.com and 2.9 stars based on eight reviews on Glassdoor.[1] [2] It should be noted that these reviews apply to the organization as a whole, rather than the women's program in particular. Some reviewers praised their coworkers and described a dynamic environment: "Great team of dedicated people working together to improve the quality of life for over 40 people everyday," one anonymous former employee wrote in a representative review on Indeed.com. However, more than one reviewer cited a stressful environment and high staff turnover — both difficulties that could adversely affect a client's experience.

FINANCING

The Providence Center accepts Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare, and numerous private insurance policies.

Patients are treated differently-depending on for those which are considered liked; and the rest, treated awfully (asylum as an alternative would prove beneficial compared to this despicable place)! Shame on them.

Very poor facility. Little interaction with staff, I was there for 9 days and never saw a counselor. They just assigned homework and schleped you out to AA meetings. ... I'd steer clear of this place, it will most likely set the person back even more.
