ABOUT THE SALVATION ARMY – FAMILY TREATMENT SERVICES

Located in a residential neighborhood of Honolulu, The Salvation Army of the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands offers a variety of health and human services for community members in need. Family Treatment Services (FTS), one of the organization’s many programs, specifically addresses the needs of parenting women who are struggling with substance abuse. Through the program, women may access residential treatment, outpatient treatment, transitional housing, and childcare.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, FTS aims to break the cycle of addiction by providing care for mothers, strengthening the family unit, and addressing any emotional, behavioral, or developmental problems in the children of chemically dependent mothers. Substance abuse treatment encourages 12-step participation and includes drug and alcohol evaluation, psychiatric care, health education, parenting classes, and life skills training, all in a therapeutic environment.

Women’s Way, which serves both adult and adolescent mothers, provides residential and outpatient treatment for women struggling with addiction. For those in the early stages of recovery, there is Ke Ola Pono, a therapeutic living program that helps women begin the transition to independent living through continued care, educational programming, and vocational training. Once stabilized, mothers and their children may reside in Ka ‘Ohu Hou O Manoa, FTS’s transitional housing program.

In addition to substance abuse treatment for mothers, FTS offers childcare and developmental programs for young children. Diamond Head Preschool serves children ages two to five, and Therapeutic Nursery cares for children ages two weeks to three years old by providing supervision and therapeutic activities.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Rehabs.com has received just one review from a former client’s loved one to date. She gave four out of five stars for metrics such as overall quality of addiction treatment, overall quality of mental health treatment, accommodations and amenities, meals and nutrition, and the staff’s support. She gave counseling options a perfect five-star rating, while noting that holistic treatment was not an option available. She noted that self-sufficiency is a goal of the program and she liked the family visits.

Reviews left on third-party sites are scarce. One anonymous reviewer on HealthGrove identified themselves as a friend of a client and expressed disappointment in the care their loved one received.[1] “I am very disappointed that the ‘Trust’ with councilors were never established with a dear friend of mine that has a Rock Hard Shell on her back... and very justified why she is that way… I would consider at the counselors there and just going thru the motions and not trying to figure out the ‘Triggers’ that make her so ‘Angry,’” the HealthGrove user wrote in their one-star review.

FINANCING

There is currently no information provided on the facility's website regarding its costs. However, The Salvation Army is a charitable organization that typically provides its services on a low or no-cost basis.
