ABOUT TURNING POINT COUNSELING SERVICES, INC.
Located in Youngstown, Ohio, about 50 miles east of Akron, Turning Point Counseling Services, Inc. offers adult residential and outpatient services for mental health and addiction disorders. Detox services are not offered on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Turning Point’s residential program, located in the facility’s Crisis Residential Unit, is designed to offer short-term care as an alternative to hospitalization. Clients in this unit receive intensive treatment, including group and individual therapy, in a supportive atmosphere. The program is designed to stabilize clients as quickly as possible and move them to a lower level of care.
The facility offers a number of outpatient counseling options, all individualized to suit the needs of each client. The most regularly utilized are one-on-one therapy and group therapy sessions, both of which are designed to “help individuals understand the reasons for their behavior, emotional distress and/or substance abuse problems, and develop positive individualized plans for change.”
For clients needing long-term assistance, Turning Point offers an Individual Community Support program, which provides case management services to educate and motivate clients, as well as help get them on their feet by navigating them through available social services.
There is also a Group Community Support Program for clients looking for additional structure. It includes daily activities, therapeutic interventions, and education, all designed to help clients practice coping skills and increase their involvement in community support.
The treatment team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and nurses, along with counselors, social workers, case managers, and administrators.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
M.L.C., the one former client surveyed by Rehabs.com, had a very negative view of Turning Point, giving the facility ratings of almost all one and two out of five stars across 15 different evaluated metrics, including its exercise, leisure, and holistic offerings, its overall quality of group counseling, and its staff support. While the alum gave the facility an overall score of three and told Rehabs.com that it was free and got her sober, she took issue with preferential treatment exbihbited by staff. “The counselor allowed 1 or 2 individuals to rule over the meetings and the house and was very biased,” M.L.C. wrote.
The facility also fared poorly on Google, receiving an average of 1.6 out of five stars based on eight reviews. The majority of reviewers gave Turning Point one or two stars and commented on the rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff. “This place is an absolute joke. They are rude and they hang up on you. They cancel your apointment and then tell you that you missed it. You call and the operator transfers you to people who are not even there. They do not care about people just the money that is brought in through government programs,” wrote John in representative review.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing offered Turning Point mixed feedback. One anonymous reviewer gave the facility ratings of mostly three stars and below across the 15 different evaluated metrics. They gave the facility two stars for its counseling options and noted that the classes were good, but gave the staff’s level of training and experience just one star and described the employees as “poor quality.”
The other anonymous loved one had a much higher opinion of Turning Point, giving it ratings of four stars across most of the 15 evaluated metrics, including its connectivity and its family participation. “Great participation time for family members to also learn about this disease,” they wrote.
According to HealthGrove, the facility accepts private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid.
