ABOUT WINDSOR LAURELWOOD CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE
Conveniently located in Willoughby, Ohio, Windsor Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine provides treatment for adults, adolescents, and children struggling with mental health disorders and/or addiction. Among the facility’s offerings for adults is a continuum of substance abuse and dual diagnosis programming. Clients may access residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), and partial hospitalization (PHP). Medically monitored detox is also available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Clients who require assistance for withdrawal symptoms typically begin their treatment in medically monitored detox. Once stabilized, they may transition to the center’s residential program. While duration of treatment varies, most clients remain on-site for 28 days. During this time, participants engage in a 12-step curriculum that includes individual, group, and family counseling. Alternative modalities include recreational and art therapy, and both AA and NA groups are held on-site.
Intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) and partial hospitalization (PHP) may be used as stand-alone treatments or as a step-down option for individuals who complete residential treatment. Outpatient offerings are heavily dependent upon group therapy and focus on improving coping skills. Individuals enrolled in PHP attend six hours of programming a day, six days a week. Those who opt for IOP meet three times a week for six weeks.
According to the facility’s website, the multidisciplinary treatment team is comprised of physicians, addictionologists, psychiatrists, and a 24-hour nursing staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Windsor Laurelwood describes its setting as a “safe, therapeutic, structured environment.” Few details about the center’s accommodations or amenities are available, however, the 22 individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave them an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Alumni polled by Rehabs.com shared mixed reviews of their experiences. More than one individual noted the facility’s no-nonsense approach to treatment. For example, K.M. described the counselors as “very to the point,” and Robert told Rehabs.com that clients who were “serious about getting sober” would find what they needed to succeed. “I've been in and out of treatment for 3 years and still apply what I learned every day,” D.H., a five-star reviewer, wrote.
Complaints from former clients touched on inattentive doctors and a lack of adequate staffing. “He does not respond to patients and is basically just phoning it in! When the STAFF that is working in the Addiction Program says that too its pretty bad!!” K.K. wrote, regarding one of the doctors. H.F. felt the meetings lacked structure and reported feeling isolated. “All we did was smoke and eat,” they wrote.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
When asked, on a scale from one to five if they’d recommend the facility, the five loved ones polled at the time of this writing gave an average of 4.2. One anonymous loved one described the center as a “great place for the treatment needed.” Friends and family were most impressed with the facility’s cleanliness and the program’s family participation, both of which received average ratings of 4.6 stars. Another anonymous loved one described the program as “family oriented.” The center’s counseling options and exercise and leisure offerings were also rated highly, with respective ratings of 4.4 and 4.2 stars.
The only ratings that dipped below four stars were for the program’s holistic offerings and its connectivity/visitor policies, with respective ratings of 3.4 and 3.75 stars. “Understaffed for proper one to one treatments, stay is too short for group treatments before your released. family meetings are brief and do not placate them to how you are doing,” one anonymous loved one wrote. Some friends and family members were also disappointed with the condition of the facility, describing it as “old looking” and “run down.”
According to its website, Windsor Laurelwood works with most insurance providers, managed care plans, Medicare, Tricare, and Medicaid (for patients up to 20 years of age).
