Marc Romano
Marc J. Romano is a Licensed Psychologist, a Board Certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner specializing in Mental Health for the entire life span, and a Certified Addiction Professional in Florida. He is also a Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager in Florida. Dr. Romano completed a Master’s of Science in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester in Manchester, England before returning to the United States to complete his Masters of Arts and Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hartford, Hartford, CT. Dr. Romano went on to complete his RN Diploma at Huron School of Nursing in the Cleveland Clinic Health System in Cleveland, OH, his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Florida International University in Miami, FL, and his Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL.

Dr. Romano’s initial training as a psychologist in England provided him with a strong foundation in Cognitive-Behavioral Theory which he has continued to use throughout his career. His training in the National Health Service and his subsequent work as a Basic Grade Psychologist at St. Charles Hospital in London was an invaluable experience. Dr. Romano began his work in the field of addiction while completing two years of practicum work at the Yale Substance Abuse Treatment Unit (SATU) during his doctoral program. He was part of a Risk Reduction Study that included cognitive-behavioral group therapy and clinical trials for the use of Buprenorphine to treat opiate addiction. Dr. Romano went on to complete his doctoral dissertation investigating the impact of HIV on a population of intravenous drug users to assess for the presence of internalized AIDS phobia a term he coined. Dr. Romano completed his APA Accredited Internship at Nova Southeastern University Community Mental Health Center and his Residency at the Miami Juvenile Court Assessment Center.

Over the course of his psychology and nursing career Dr. Romano has worked in numerous settings with individuals with addiction, including private practice, acute detox, inpatient dual diagnosis, and residential. He has worked with adolescents, adults, the elderly and the LGBT community. He has worked in the role of Director of Nursing, Director of Clinical Services, Director of Risk Management, and is currently employed as Assistant Medical Director at Ocean Breeze Recovery in Pompano Beach, Florida.
