ABOUT 12 & 12, INC.

Located in Tulsa, Ok., 12 & 12, Inc. is the largest Comprehensive Community Addiction Recovery Center (CCARC) in Oklahoma. The facility offers a full continuum of treatment for individuals struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. The facility provides inpatient-based and ambulatory detoxification, residential care, outpatient programs, and transitional living homes.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To determine an appropriate continuum of care, clients undergo an initial assessment to identify the severity of their addiction and any co-occurring mental health conditions. Clients who require supervision and structure to maintain sobriety may be referred to the facility's residential program. Residential care involves roughly 37 hours per week of structured programming.

Although length of stay depends upon client needs, those receiving intensive inpatient treatment for chemical dependency or dual diagnosis typically remain for 45 to 60 days. In Oklahoma, 12 & 12 is among 21.6 percent of substance abuse facilities that offer long-term, non-hospital residential care,

Clients participate in an individualized treatment plan, which consists of one-on-one and group therapy in conjunction with educational groups and workshops. Specialized groups cover topics including grief recovery, relapse prevention, anger management, coping skills, gender-specific themes, and relationship building. Clients with co-occurring disorders also receive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management.

The organization emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to sustained recovery. For that reason, residential clients may transition into a less-intensive level of care. Typically lasting between four to 12 weeks, the intensive outpatient program (IOP) consists of nine to 16 hours of weekly programming, while the traditional outpatient program (OP) requires fewer hours. The center also operates a number of sober living facilities for clients who attend an outpatient-based service. The typical length of residency in a transitional home is between two and three months.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), 12 & 12 employs a multidisciplinary team of physicians board-certified in addiction medicine, psychiatrists, masters-level substance abuse and mental health counselors, registered nurses, dietitian, and support staff. To date, the five individuals polled by Rehabs.com on the matter praised the staff's aptitude.

Staff Experience and Training: 4.4/5

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Residential clients share double-occupancy, gender-specific bedrooms with a private bath. They receive meals in a communal dining room, have access to a common lounge area, computer lab, library, laundry facilities, and fitness room. Activities include ping-pong, foosball, and chess.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Seven alumni polled by Rehabs.com about 12 & 12 to date submitted mixed opinions, skewed positive: four positive, two neutral, and one negative. Clients tended to appreciated the facility's cleanliness and upkeep, though felt holistic offerings could improve.

Facility Cleanliness and Upkeep: 4/5
Holistic Offerings: 3/5

A majority of reviewers praised the staff and their caring attitude, such as Connie, who wrote: “The staff was all very caring, well educated and really wanted to help everyone.” Offering four stars for the respect shown to clients, alum T.N. added: “Some of them (the staff) are recovering also so, they know what it's like to be in your shoes. Very compasionate.”

However, K.W. described the facility as a “joke” and “get-out-of-jail-free card.” Another considered the staff judgmental and yet another felt the facility misrepresented themselves. “The website featured totally different expectations,” one alum wrote.

Secondary review sites yielded negative feedback: 2.6 out of five stars based on five reviews on CiteHealth, and two stars based on four reviews on YellowPages.com. [1] [2] Positive reviewers (alumni, loved ones) referenced the concerned, caring, and competent staff. The more prevalent negative reviewers criticized the one-size-fits all approach, lack of safety, and rampant drug use.

“There are more drugs inside there than on the streets,” one alum wrote on CiteHealth. Another referenced an attempted suicide at the facility, followed by a tragic successful episode. The reviewer blamed the staff for failing to contact the family about the attempt and for not putting the client under suicide watch.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Three of the four loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date about 12 & 12 submitted highly favorable feedback, offering four- and perfect five-star ratings for the facility's counseling options, the amount of family participation, and the likelihood they'd recommend the facility. "Excellent counseling services," one loved one wrote.

Loved ones referenced the compassionate, professional counselors and ease of communication, yet two pointed out the admissions process involved heavy paperwork and long wait times. The negative reviewer wrote: “This facility is not for the general public. It\'s full of court ordered addicts and is, in my opinion, one step above city jail.”

The one employee polled by Rehabs.com to date submitted a positive review, praising the center’s “never-say-never” attitude. Offering five-star ratings for protocols training, the experience of staff, and the protected privacy of clients, the employee wrote: “They're leaders in the statewide rehab community. I picked up so many tools while in residential, left for a short time so I could learn more in transitional living because I wanted to be there. Not because I had to be there or forced to be there by the courts. I was looking for a new way of life. From the moment I walked into my councilors office I felt like he had all ready judged me and yet never laid eyes on me before. Even though I was grateful for the things I learned in residential I was on the other hand very dissatisfied that I was not giving the opportunity to prove why I was really there.because of one mistake.

Counselors were a strenght but is was urgently, which was a weakness. It was great

This facility is a joke. It is just a get-out-of-jail-free card for those who have the choice of going to jail or going to rehab. This is not a place for those who are willing to go on their own and quit. It is not a place for someone who is truly wanting help. My wife picked me up that same night when I realized this was not going to work for me. On top of that, the staff was very nice and helpful but one woman who worked there was hanging out inappropriately with guys in detox. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone who wants help with their addiction.

This facility is not for the general public. It\'s full of court ordered addicts and is, in my opinion, one step above city jail. They say it\'s non-smoking and no cell phones, but smoking is going on and my son used his \'cellys\' phone to call us to come get him. When we asked the administration about these issues, they told us people had bigger problems and they didn\'t monitor it. This facility is NOT as pictured on their web site and we fell is very misrepresented to us. If they would\'ve told us smoking goes on and that they were affiliated with the criminal system, we\'d never have agreed for son to go. No value here. Move on.

They did a comprehensive evaluation and addressed the issues I was dealing with. As with most facilities that are not completely locked down the opportunity to use was available if I had wished to do so. As with any rehab program you will only get out of it what you are willing to put in.

Very compassionate workers and structured programs but takes a bit of paperwork to get in. I had great interaction over the phone and in person with a caseworker who stuck by me throughout the process.

Counselors do their job. They are not always great at holding patients accountable for their time. Anyone in a rehab needs to have a solid core of back up team members. They must have accountability. I feel like that was taught at this location.
