A New Beginning Philosophy

A New Beginning provides women with a nurturing and safe space to begin the recovery process, while also giving them the resources necessary to build a strong foundation for long-term sobriety. Situated in northwest Alabama — amidst a vibrant and active recovery community — the drug and alcohol treatment center has restored the lives of many chemically dependent women, empowering them to break free from the vicious cycle of addiction and become productive (and happy!) members of society.

Areas of Specialization

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

  • Individualized Treatment
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.

ABOUT A NEW BEGINNING

Located in Florence, Ala., just off the Tennessee River, A New Beginning is a long-term residential facility for women struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. Detoxification is not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The facility fosters “an environment that is loving, nurturing, safe, and conducive to recovery,” according to its mission statement. A New Beginning networks with many community churches to get clients in touch with support groups and financial aid. The program lasts between six months and one year.

Treatment adheres to the 12-Steps, and clients participate in individual and group counseling. According to Rehabs.com reviewers, the program takes a faith-based approach to recovery, and provides a full continuum of treatment. Another core aspect of treatment is the facility’s vocational training, in which participants learn job skills for the work force. Additionally, mothers can take part in 16 weeks of certified parenting classes.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The three staff members profiled on the facility’s website are all certified alcohol and drug counselors and each has personal experience with addiction. Three alumni and one loved one gave the staff’s level of training and experience an average of 4.25 out of five in their Rehabs.com surveys.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The 40-bed treatment center is located near The Shoals, a legendary area for music and art. The region also boasts a supportive, active recovery community. The facility itself has a pool and provides each client with a YMCA membership. Personal TVs, computers, and cell phones are not allowed.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has received feedback from five alumni. Most reviewers supported the program’s 12-step approach, with the only complaint being that there sometimes wasn’t enough of it. “Need more step work,” Nancy told Rehabs.com. “Can’t recover fully without total surrender to God. This faith based program helped me in making the most important decision of my life.”

Praise was also given to the “very loving environment” created by the staff. “They are all in recovery and they show you how to change not just tell you,” wrote Connie, who gave five stars for most categories, including holistic offerings and staff’s availability.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

A couple loved ones shared favorable experiences with Rehabs.com at the time of this writing. Parent, J.N.M., gave the facility a rating of five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness and indicated various ways in which their child changed, including increased confidence and improved communication skills. “My child has been free of drugs for 18 months, attends AA regularly and works a fulltime job. We have a relationship like never before,” they wrote. Another family member gave similarly high ratings and reported a successful recovery for their uncle to Rehabs.com.

FINANCING

A New Beginning costs $700 per month for treatment, and there is a one-time $300 admission fee. Fees for AA/NA books and drug screenings are not included. The facility’s website does not explicitly state if insurance is accepted, but it recommends that clients bring their health insurance cards to admission.

Very helpful.Allowed my daughter to stay as long as she felt necessary. Great treatment for rehab.

I cannot speak as to the effectiveness of this program because our daughter decided not to stay but be warned they mean what they say when they inform you there is NO refund. Our daughter stayed less than 24 hours and they kept the ENTIRE 1000$'( deposit as well as the first months fees) So, if there is any doubt whatsoever your loved one may not stay do NOT use these guys. They may have a great program but if your loved one won't stay & your out even more money (most have multiple stays in rehab) with nothing to show for it. I 100% agree the deposit should be non-refundable but to keep 700$'s for less than 24 hours if very harsh for families who are already hurting financially in an attempt to help their loved one. This just adds insult to injury. Shame on you A New Beginning. Help comes in many different forms but taking money for services not used is unfair & can lead to a bad reputation within the rehab world.
