ABOUT ADAMS RECOVERY CENTER – MEN'S FACILITY

Adams Recovery Center (ARC) offers individualized, gender-specific substance abuse treatment to adults. Located in New Richmond, Ohio, the facility for men provides residential and outpatient treatment programming. The facility is one of 168 treatment facilities in Ohio (41 percent) to provide treatment tailored to men.

Clients struggling with co-occurring mental health disorders are admitted on a case-by-case basis, but ARC is not equipped to provide dual diagnosis treatment. A separate women's facility is located in Loveland, which is about 25 miles north.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

ARC's website notes that same-day assessments and admission is available for the residential program. The program is long-term and lasts 90 to 180 days. It's one of only 71 facilities in Ohio (just 17.4 percent) to offer residential programming that lasts longer than 30 days.

Residents participate in individualized treatment plans, which draw from evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). One-on-one counseling is provided once a week and several process groups are scheduled each day. Family therapy is also available.

While attendance is not required, 12-step support meetings are hosted on-site daily. The rehab also provides specialized programming for professionals, as well as access to off-site medication-assisted therapy (MAT). In 2017, 11,193 individuals were receiving MAT in Ohio, making up about 10.7 percent of individuals receiving MAT at a national level.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

ARC's treatment team includes master's-level therapists, licensed chemical dependency counselors, nurses, and a medical coordinator.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

This men's rehab has 32 beds and requires residents to participate in chores. Smoking is permitted in designated areas, but personal electronic devices are allowed. Families visiting on-site must first attend the Saturday family group session.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The majority of alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date (three out of four) gave ARC positive feedback. They described the treatment as effective, the staff as helpful, and the program as life-changing. "I didn't think much of the program when I started, but once I started to trust the process, everything made sense. They saved my life!" B.J.R. wrote in a representative review. W.T.C., the one negative reviewer, criticized the program for a lack of therapy and a transportation fee for off-site Suboxone maintenance.

ARC's men's facility earned a 4.4 out of five star rating based on the opinions of 10 people on Facebook[1], which the facility may manage. "Adams Recovery Center not only saved my life, but changed my life completely," Taylor wrote in a representative review.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

D.C., the one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, gave ARC highly positive feedback. The reviewer, whose brother attended the program, wrote: "It's effective and the staff are caring. Great place if you are serious about getting well."

FINANCING

According to ARC’s website, the facility accepts private pay, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans. The fee for Suboxone treatment is $350, due at the beginning of services.

There is a reason there is no waiting list for this program. It is horrendous and clients are treated like jail inmates and stacked in a small facility like cordwood with absolutely no privacy. They not only allow, but encourage suboxone therapy, but charge a $350 "transport fee" to receive it. Clients are not permitted to talk to staff unless they go through client leaders, even when the request pertains to confidential medical information. Although their website promises various treatment approaches and services for clients with a dual diagnosis, that isn't true. I was there 20 days and saw a counselor on the day of my admission and the day of my discharge and never received any additional counseling or supportive services except for two short conversations with a nurse. Six of the 24 people in the program during my short stay either quit or were kicked out.

Official Facility Response

It is unfortunate to hear that your experience was not ideal and did not meet your expectations. Less than one percent of all clients at Adams Recovery Center report a negative experience. I can assure you that your negative perception of your stay at Adams Recovery Center is not the norm. Any client who enters the program is informed of the Suboxone fee, which is non-refundable. This non-refundable fee is explained via intake over the telephone prior to your assessment, and once again when you show for for the assessment *and* you are offered placement in the program. Additionally, all clients who choose to enter the voluntary Suboxone program are given a form to sign that indicates the fee is *non-refundable*, and your signature on the document is counter-signed in the presence of competent staff. Additionally, the Suboxone fee entirely covers the initial visit to the doctor. Absolutely no portion of the fee is used for "transportation," and Adams Recovery Center neither promotes nor discourages voluntary Suboxone treatment. Our competent and professional staff go to great lengths to explain the Suboxone program and the fees associated with such. Adams Recovery Center is a Therapeutic Community. A hierarchy exists to help those who struggle with addiction to re-learn important social skills and delay instant gratification -- something that is a problem for those struggling with addiction. Adams Recovery Center's Therapeutic Community model is recognized by the Federal Government (SAMHSA) as an effective and evidenced-based approach to dealing with substance abuse and drug use disorders. If you have any questions about the program including its clinical implementation, the structure of the Therapeutic Community or the Suboxone program, you are encouraged to contact me and I will be happy to provide additional information. Respectfully, Director Adams Recovery Center.
