Servicing vulnerable populations, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, Inc. (ADAS) offers a continuum of treatment for clients in Cameron, Elk, and McKean Counties in Pennsylvania. ADAS offers regular outpatient programs (OP) as well as one of the state's 261 (49.4 percent) intensive outpatient programs (IOP) to clients in several different locations, including Port Allegany. These services are available to adults, as well as adolescents, a feature of only 123 (32.3 percent) substance abuse treatment centers in the state.

This facility is also amongst the just 22.7 percent of Pennsylvania treatment centers with specifically-tailored programming for pregnant women. Detox services are not available but arrangements can be made with local hospital units.

Before beginning treatment, clients receive evaluations and assessments to determine an appropriate level of care. Hours at the Port Allegany clinic run 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on all weekdays other than Wednesday, when the hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

IOP treatment is a four- to six-month program running three days per week. Hours of treatment may occur either in the morning or afternoon depending on the client's schedule. Treatment plans are individualized and include individual, group, and family counseling. Clients also participate in 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) groups. Aftercare treatment can be planned following treatment.

In OP treatment, clients receive many of the same services on a less intense scale. Children of clients seeking recovery from substance use, no matter their age, may receive support services. Along with AA and NA, groups in OP include Al-Anon and Alateen. Treatment for dual diagnosis is also available.

ADAS employs recovery support specialists, drug and alcohol residential workers. In Pennsylvania, 98.7 percent of all substance abuse treatment facilities had higher education requirements for staff, as of 2016. The single alum polled by to date gave the facility only two out of five stars for quality of leadership and staff's level of support.

The sole alum polled by to date gave ADAS outpatient services mostly negative ratings, giving the facility only two out of five stars for the counseling services offered, staff support, pricing of treatment, and the facility's cleanliness. Slightly higher, lukewarm ratings of three out of five stars were given for the holistic treatment offerings, family involvement in treatment, overall family programming, and the quality of mental health treatment. The anonymous alum wrote: "Emotional support was ok."

According to CiteHealth, ADAS accepts private insurance plans, as well as TRICARE, Medicaid (accepted at 79.2 percent of Pennsylvania treatment centers), and Medicare (accepted at 25.8 percent of facilities in the state). Fees are based on a sliding scale.

A March 2017 article by the Bradford Era reported that ADAS has recently opened Maple Manor, a residential center available to clients in the area, in Port Allegany. Information about the center is available on ADAS's website.
