ABOUT ALPHA HOME

Alpha Home, located in San Antonio, Tex., has a 50-year history of providing substance abuse and mental health care, including being one of the state's 193 (44.8 percent) centers to offer treatment for co-occurring disorders. Services include residential treatment for women, outpatient programming for men and women, transitional housing for women, and outreach and intervention for pregnant and parenting women. Alpha Home is one of the 207 (48 percent) treatment centers in Texas with female-specific programming. Detox services are not available on-site, and all clients must be Texas residents.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

An initial assessment determines the best program fit and a personalized plan. Treatment in all programs is based on the 12-Steps. Residential clients are required to work with a sponsor and participate in a community 12-step program. Outpatient program clients are encouraged to also participate in 12-Step..

Residential clients stay an average length of 70 days. During this time, women engage in a range of treatment activities, including individual and group counseling, process and education groups, sober living skills development, and health and wellness classes. An on-site medical clinic staffed by the University of Texas Health Science Center addresses residents' medical needs.

The residential program also assists women in meeting their legal and educational needs/goals, including liaising with Child Protective Services and criminal justice entities, as well as offering G.E.D. classes and job training.

Available to both men and women, outpatient programs typically last from four to six months and are gender-specific. Treatment largely uses the same formats as the residential program. Alpha Home offers services that develop skills to deal with trauma, domestic violence, and anger management, as well as substance abuse and mental health disorders.

Family First focuses on pregnant and parenting women struggling with addiction, placing the programs as one of the only 108 (25.1 percent) of its kind in Texas. A range of educational classes and related services support not only clients, but also babies, children and parenting men.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Alpha Home’s residential, outpatient, and intervention programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Although the organization does not disclose details about its treatment staff, its website references multidisciplinary professionals, including medical and clinical practitioners.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Alpha Home has 47 residential beds for women in two facilities in downtown San Antonio: 31 beds at Mulberry Residence and 16 beds at Camden Residence. Both settings provide a homelike environment with fully-functional kitchens. The Mulberry location also offers an outdoor play area for children, a meditation garden, and a computer lab.

The Recovery Support Home accommodates 15 women who are transitioning from residential treatment. During their average four-month stay, they receive three meals daily, are expected to secure employment, and attend outpatient treatment.

Staff was amazing always made sure that I had everything I needed even if I didn't have any money the schedules are very structured There are rules but it provides a good slates for the ladies that are struggling with drug addiction. They let us use exercise machines and we got to go out to the park every once in awhile and they gave us bus passes among other things they also let us go out and find a job after 30 days which gave a sense of Independence. Some of the staff could be disrespectful at times sometimes there's drama between the ladies but that's to be expected overall not definitely not bad it's definitely got more positives and negatives I would have liked to have more yoga and stuff like that but it's not all about me

Strengths: Staffing ,hospitality, programming, volunteers. Need one place instead of two separate houses. They specialize in woman's issues based upon spirituality, unity of alumni sisters who not only participate with the other female suffering from addictions but also who participate in activities in the community
