Amethyst Foundation, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization located in rural southern New Hampshire that provides education, intervention, and evaluation services for individuals struggling with substance abuse. It is one of only 32 facilities in the state of New Hampshire that works as a private, nonprofit center. Founded in 1981, the center provides DWI/DUI programming, including weekend-long residential DUI courses. The center often accepts referrals from courts and probation officers.

A weekend lodging program, the Amethyst Foundation has satellite locations for screening and intake interviews and class sessions. The facility accepts clients from across the Northeast.

The Impaired Driver Care Management Program (IDCMP) consists of four separate components: alcohol and drug abuse screening, substance use disorder evaluation, service plan development, and impaired driver education program (IDEP) sessions. The sessions occur on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., over the course of three consecutive weeks. For those unable to attend the evening sessions, the Weekend Impaired Driver Education Program (WIDEP) takes place over the course of a single weekend.

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff; however, the two individuals polled by to date gave the center a four-star rating and a five-star rating out of five for its staff’s level of training and experience respectively.

The quaint old farmhouse-style building is host to the program’s administrative offices and men’s dormitories. Inside the three-storied New England home, there’s a chandelier-lit dining room, a shared living space with a large TV and couches, and multiple classrooms. Weather permitting, clients can take advantage of the surrounding lawns, with volleyball courts and horseshoes.

The sole review submitted to to date was positive. The anonymous reviewer give the facility five out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, counseling options, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. The reviewer also praised the staff but suggested treatment was pricey.

According to the facility’s website, the maximum fee for the IDEP is set by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services at $300.00. Out-of-state license holders with convictions that also took place out of state are charged $460.00. Both individuals polled by to date gave the facility four out of five stars for its affordability.

Great accommodations, food and living room, etc. but Programs were very weak. The staff was very nice and the place was nice but nothing meaningful happened there.
