Anthony Louis Center Philosophy

Teenage substance abuse affects emotional and social functioning, as well as the healthy development of family relationships. The goal of the Anthony Louis Center in Blaine, Minnesota is to help young people develop the skills they need to cope with the stresses of adolescence without turning to drugs and alcohol. Residential treatment provides teens with a safe and supportive place to examine their substance abuse and behavioral problems, become educated about the disease of addiction, and discover alternative methods for facing life’s challenges — and having fun.

Areas of Specialization

  • Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.

ABOUT ANTHONY LOUIS CENTER – BLAINE

Anthony Louis Center, a Minnesota-based substance abuse treatment program, operates five facilities for adolescents struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Its location in Blaine serves adolescents ages 13 to 18 through both residential and outpatient treatment, the latter of which is available on weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the organization’s website, all programs focus on “the importance of family and community as a conduit for successful change.” The center offers its residents comprehensive case management that engages family members and encourages “involvement from those professionals already involved with the client/family.”

Duration of treatment is dependent upon each adolescent’s personal assessment. During their stay, residents receive individual counseling and participate in group therapy, family counseling, educational lectures, recreational therapy, and life skills workshops. Clients who are still in school may continue their education with the help of on-site District 11 teachers. Outpatient treatment consists of the same programmatic components.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The multidisciplinary staff is led by a medical director and includes a licensed clinical psychologist, a registered nurse, a dietician, chemical dependency counselors, recreational therapists, and teachers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The residential facility can accommodate up to 22 clients at a time. Few details regarding amenities or living conditions are available, but one alum surveyed by Rehabs.com gave the facility high marks for accommodations and cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing Rehabs.com has received only one alumni response. Alum A.L.C. gave the facility a five out of five star rating for accommodations & amenities, meals & nutrition, exercise options, and staff support. A.L.C. gave a three- out of five-star rating for holistic offerings, it’s cellphone and visitation policy, and leisure options. A.L.C., who entered treatment under the age of 18, Chose this facility in particular based on a medical referral. The client entered rehab for substance abuse and stayed for 30 to 60 days.

A.L.C. has been out of the facility for over 12 months, completed treatment successfully, and did not enter sober living after treatment. The client’s treatment was funded by HMO/PPO private pay and A.L.C. agreed when asked if the facility was worth the cost. A.L.C. did not relapse after leaving the program and did not re-enter the facility. The alum also wrote: “It [the facility] is for minors.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Reviews from parents are more mixed. An anonymous reviewer on CiteHealth shared a positive experience, offering specific praise for the friendly and effective staff. “The young staff related very well to our son and he did very well at this facility. We felt the staff, especially the counselors, were extremely talented and experienced,” they wrote.[1]

One Rehabs.com survey respondent, S.K., whose son was enrolled in both outpatient and inpatient treatment gave the facility a one- out of five-star rating for accommodations & amenities, two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, and three out of five stars for meals & nutrition. S.K. added, “The staff lost his some of his belongings. When I called to enquire about it they stated, "We are not responsible for lost or stolen property."...In my opinion, they should be responsible for them at that point. Also, there was a lack of communication between the staff, myself, and my son. For what they charge I think there are much better resources out there.”

Yet Candice, a reviewer on HealthGrove, expressed a drastically different impression of the staff. “The offices are wonderfully decorated, but the staff is rude, mean to the kids, they allow bullying, there is no fairless at this facility, i would not reccomend this to anyone not ever… my child came out worse than when he went in much worse.” 2

Another parent reviewer on HealthGrove, also expressed concerns regarding the staff. They gave their overall experience with the center two out of five stars and wrote: “The intake coordinator not only deceived my daughter and I but manipulated another center we have her in to not follow through with the plan he suggested to us and leave her with virtually no options.”

FINANCING

Anthony Louis Center does not publish its fees online, however, the center does accept insurance and offers some scholarship opportunities.

My son did both outpatient and inpatient treatment there. The staff lost his some of his belongings. When I called to enquire about it they stated, "We are not responsible for lost or stolen property." They took inventory of his things and we're in control of them when they were lost. In my opinion, they should be responsible for them at that point. Also, there was a lack of communication between the staff, myself, and my son. For what they charge I think there are much better resources out there.
