Located outside of the small city of Menomonie, Wis., Arbor Place, Inc., describes itself as a “counseling and renewal center,” dedicated to treating and supporting those struggling with substance abuse and mental health disorders. The center offers inpatient and outpatient treatment plus long-term sober-living facilities for adults, as well as DUI programming and a teen tobacco diversion program.

Treatment is based on the 12-Steps, supplemented by unspecified additional and alternative methodologies.

Residential treatment is intensive, with programming between 7 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Days are largely spent in treatment groups, on topics such as relapse prevention, anger management, spirituality, and relationships. All clients work with a dedicated one-on-one counselor and completed tailored assignments. Length of stay in residential treatment tends to range between 21 and 90 days.

Outpatient treatment options include day treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and general outpatient counseling in individual and group settings. The center also provides medication management services, plus seminars and educational sessions for the families of individuals struggling with substance abuse.

The length of stay at the sober-living facility ranges from three to 24 months, and an info sheet published on the facility’s website indicates that no clinical services are delivered on-site; rather, residents are encouraged to work the 12-Steps during their stay, and connected to professional services when necessary.

Staff includes a psychologist, a nurse practitioner, master’s level counselors, and an anger management specialist. The two individuals polled by to date gave the center a three-star rating and a four-star rating out of five for its staff’s level of training and experience.

The residential facility offers 32 beds.

During sober living, men and women stay in gender-separate houses, both of which were renovated in 2016, according to an info sheet published on the facility’s website. Both the men’s and the women’s houses offer three double-occupancy rooms and three single-occupancy rooms, plus a kitchen, a laundry, a patio, and a computer work space. Both houses have WiFi, cable, and off-street parking, and are tobacco-free facilities.

The two individuals polled by to date gave the center a four-star rating and a five-star rating for its cleanliness; for both its accommodations and its exercise/leisure offerings, they gave the facility a two-star rating and a four-star rating.

The single alum polled by to date would recommend this facility. The anonymous reviewer gave the facility four stars for its treatment effectiveness and treatment for co-occurring disorders, three stars for its holistic offerings, and two stars for its family participation and counseling options. “Care of staff was great. Individual time with counselors was poor,” they wrote.

At the time of this writing, secondary sites yielded no alumni reviews of this facility.

The single loved one polled by to date would strongly recommend treatment at this facility. They gave the center two stars for its holistic offerings and four or five stars in all 14 of the remaining evaluated treatment metrics, including its treatment effectiveness, family participation, counseling options, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. “Good people,” they wrote simply.

All three of the reviews posted on staff review sites to date were positive: the facility gained three five-star ratings spread across and Glassdoor.[1] [2] The reviewers’ comments revealed little about the quality of care at the facility, except that staff enjoyed working with clients. “The wide array of clients and amazing staff make this an enjoyable and satisfying place to work,” one reviewer wrote on, in the most detailed review available at the time of this writing.

According to its website, Arbor Place participates with more than 15 insurance providers, and accepts self-pay. For the sober-living facility, there’s a $250 application fee and deposit, followed by monthly fees of $400 for a double-occupancy room and $500 for a single-occupancy room.

Both individuals polled by to date gave the center four out of five stars for its affordability.

Staff was not empathetic, treated the Clients like criminals. Voluntary inpatient clients were treated as criminals and staff treated clients like children versus adults. Were not allowed to call family or utilize the fitness center. Staff made assumptions without understanding all the facts. Counselor spent less than 2 hours over the Course of 21 days with their patients. Would never recommend this facility to anyone who is seeking treatment for recovery to their addiction/disease. The facility states they follow the AA 12-step program but do not practice the steps themselves and instead degrade the patients....
