Ascend Healthcare for Adolescents Philosophy

Ascend Healthcare provides residential treatment to teens in a luxurious and comfortable environment, with a focus on evidence-based therapies. We stress the critical roles that family and empowerment play within one’s journey to recovery. We connect with teens, helping them with their self-esteem, offering comprehensive educational services and providing them with support systems to last them well beyond their tenure at our facility. We treat many disorders, including substance abuse, depression, anxiety and trauma.

Areas of Specialization

  • Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

  • Individualized Treatment
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.

In a beautiful Encino, Calif., facility set in the Santa Monica Mountains, Ascend Healthcare is a luxury residential rehab center for adolescents struggling with addiction and mental health challenges. Evidence-based treatment is integrated with creative therapies in family-centered, personalized recovery programs. Clients may progress in their education through individualized curricula provided on-site.

Information on the facility's website does not specify whether detoxification services are available. The focus at Ascend is on holistic rehabilitation involving each client's whole family when possible. Families can expect daily communication with both staff members and their loved one, twice monthly sessions on-site, and help in planning for long-term family recovery.

According to the website and information provided to by the facility, treatment team members are prepared to provide cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies, trauma recovery-oriented eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and expressive therapies, including art, music, and theater.

Dual diagnosis treatment is tailored to meet each individual's needs and circumstances, addressing mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and OCD.

Accredited teachers work with individual clients to pursue their educational goals and potential. In keeping with the emphasis on creative arts in therapy, elective courses are offered in photography, music production, fashion design, and creative writing. An executive chef also offers cooking classes.

The facility's extensive aftercare program features home visits, intensive outpatient treatment, and referrals for sober living and support groups.

Treatment team members tend to hold advanced degrees and certifications. Among the employees listed on the facility's website are master's level licensed therapists, a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, a medical doctor with special interest in nutrition, a doctoral level social worker and educator, and a registered yoga teacher.

Website photographs feature bright, modern accommodations with support for several physical activities. Outside are a swimming pool, a basketball court, and a fire pit with comfortable seating. Inside, shared bedrooms and bathrooms appear spacious, lounge areas have plush furnishings, and a workout room is well-supplied.
