Located four miles west of central Boise, Idaho, Ashwood Recovery at Northpoint offers a range of outpatient treatment options for adults and adolescents struggling with substance use disorder, mental and behavioral health problems, and co-occurring disorders. The facility also provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with naltrexone shots, a service provided by just 12.9 percent of treatment facilities in Idaho.

The process begins with an initial 90-minute assessment to determine the appropriate level of outpatient care. The primary course of treatment for adults is an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that operates for three hours each weekday for about 12 weeks. The facility also has a more intensive partial hospitalization program (PHP) that operates six hours daily from Monday through Friday. In 2017, just 8.9 percent of outpatient treatment facilities in Idaho offered a PHP.

Treatment combines 12-steps methodology with evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

Family nights are offered twice a month and include therapy, education, and skills-building exercises. There are also specialized support groups for adolescents, a specialty available in a little more than half (52.4 percent) of Idaho treatment facilities.

Continuing care is provided and consists of ongoing group therapy for a varied length of time. Clients typically attend two days per week for one and one-half hours.

The treatment team includes certified alcohol and drug counselors, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed marriage and family therapists.

One alum surveyed on a range of survey metrics also provided high four- and perfect five-star ratings for the staff's level of experience and training, the facility's ability to treat co-occurring disorders, counseling options, and family participation.

Not having a cafeteria or a sober house living I have found to be a weakness within Ashwood recovery at Northpoint.
