Located in Billings, Mont., Billings Clinic provides comprehensive psychiatric treatment for adults and youth struggling with a primary mental health disorder. The facility offers a short-term inpatient program and a variety of outpatient services, including a partial hospitalization program (PHP) exclusively designed to treat youth.


According to the facility’s website, Billings Clinic is the largest inpatient hospital facility in Montana. Its Psychiatric Center provides acute inpatient treatment for clients in need of immediate assistance and stabilization. The focus of treatment is to provide 24-hour care while the client is assessed and stabilized. Billings Clinic offers separate youth and adult care inpatient units.

The facility's Behavioral Health Clinic offers comprehensive, evidence-based outpatient services for adults, including medication management, individual and group therapy, family counseling, community outreach and consultation, and equine-assisted psychotherapy. The Youth Partial Hospitalization program (PHP) offers outpatient treatment and education to adolescents and children in conjunction with academic instruction. While receiving mental health treatment programming, students attend school through a partnership with Yellowstone Academy/Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch.

To help adults transition back into the community, Bridge Clinic provides outpatient-based, short-term psychiatric medication follow-up for adult clients until they are able to find their own treatment provider. In addition, Billings Clinic offers telemedicine services, which includes counseling services and support, through interactive video conferencing for clients who return to rural areas.


Billings Clinic employs a multidisciplinary treatment team comprised of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and social workers.


Billings Clinic can accommodate up to 44 individuals. According to the facility's website, one-third of beds are dedicated to youth while two-thirds are reserved for adults. Out of five stars, the three individuals polled by at the time of this writing gave a three-, four-, and five-star rating for the facility's overall cleanliness and upkeep.


The sole alum polled by at the time of this writing gave the Billings Clinic a generally positive review. The anonymous alum gave four-star ratings for the facility's inclusion of holistic activities and its counseling options. However, the alum did offer more moderate three-star ratings for the involvement of family members and its discharge planning. The alum simply described the facility as "Good, nice, and cool."

On Billings Clinic’s Facebook page, which the facility has the ability to edit, the hospital, as a whole, received a rating of 4.1 based on 931 reviews.[1]


The two anonymous loved ones surveyed by at the time of this writing offered mixed reviews of the facility. One felt that a particular strength of the clinic was its communication with family members and offered a five-star rating for the level of family participation. This loved one also indicated that the clinic was good at setting up aftercare and discharge planning, offering a four-star rating for this survey metric.

However, they felt that exercise and leisure options were limited, giving this category only one star. “No exercise, yoga anything... Nothing to help with physical needs whatsoever… So important for mental and physical health!” the loved one wrote.

The other loved one offered four-star ratings for the facility's holistic activities, its discharge planning, and the ease of communication with loved ones. While offering a three-star rating for the staff's level of experience and training, the reviewer described the facility as offering a “good program.”


While has yet to receive employee feedback to date, secondary source revealed mix opinions of the facility. On Indeed, three individuals in the mental health department gave the facility a two, three, and five out of five-star rating[2]. "Management didn't communicate effectively," one employee wrote. However, another reviewer did feel the work was rewarding.


According to the facility’s website, Billings Clinic accepts most major insurance plans. The facility also assists uninsured individuals to enroll into Medicaid and Medicare, and financial assistance may be available to qualified individuals.

They explained patients issues well to family. Also helped set up after care. No exercise, yoga anything... Nothing to help with physical needs whatsoever. Didn't keep patient long enough according to their needs and wants. Patient didn't leave feeling they got anything immediately out of it in regards to how to help themselves or organize their thoughts. Offer some sort of physical exercise. So important for mental and physical health! He left more confused.
