ABOUT BRIDGEWAY CENTER INC.
Based in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Bridgeway Center, Inc. (BCI) is one of the 314 (43.9 percent) nonprofit organizations in the state to provide a variety of health and human services to the communities of Okaloosa County. As part of its offerings, the center runs substance abuse programs for adults as well as adolescents, making it one of the only 153 (21.4 percent) facilities in the state to have specifically-tailored programming for this age group. Services include intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), outpatient counseling (OP), and residential care for individuals with mental health diagnoses.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to BCI’s website, clients have access to comprehensive substance abuse and behavioral health assessments, which help determine the programs that are most appropriate for their needs. For individuals struggling with mental health concerns, residential care is available. Otherwise, most clients opt for IOP or outpatient counseling.
The IOP program lasts a total of 16 weeks. During this time, clients participate in nine hours of weekly group and individual counseling sessions, which are conducted over the course of three sessions a week. This level of care is intended for clients who have tried other treatments in the past but continue to struggle with chemical dependency. Standard outpatient counseling is similar but less time-intensive. Individuals enrolled in either program may be subject to random urinalysis.
In Florida in 2016, 20.57 percent of adolescents ages 12 to 18 experienced any mental illness, and 12.84 percent experienced a major depressive episode during the year. Bridgeway Center offers all IOP programming, including group and individual counseling sessions, to adolescents ages 11 and up.
According to the organization’s website, the treatment team includes a medical director, a staff psychiatrist, advanced nurse practitioners, physician assistants, licensed clinical social workers, and case workers. In the state of Florida, 98.4 percent of treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for staff. The two alumni and sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date all awarded staff level of experience and training five out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Two alumni provided feedback to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, and they revealed drastically different perspectives. Former client A.M. indicated having made the personal choice to enter treatment, and selected this facility due to a friend's referral. She noted that she would recommend the center to others and reported to Rehabs.com that the center’s combination of counseling and 12-step instruction was key to her long-lasting sobriety. “Using the big blue book combined with trained counselors who themselves have overcome addictions and spiritual guidance. I just celebrated 19 years sober,” she wrote. Despite her overall appreciate for the program, she gave low, one-star ratings to leisure activities, holistic offerings, and the center's connectivity and visitor policies.
The the other alumni surveyed, who remained anonymous, gave the program’s treatment effectiveness only one star. “Not that great treatment,” they commented to Rehabs.com, providing two stars for leisure activities and whether or not treatment was worth the cost, and one star for counseling options. They did feel positively about the level of family involvement, the experience of the staff, and the affordability of the program, though, giving each of these categories five out of five stars.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date, when asked how likely they were to recommend the facility to others, provided a five-star rating. This anonymous reviewer found the center’s surroundings to be “poor,” but gave high, four-star ratings to most categories, including exercise and leisure activities, the level of family participation, counseling options, and the center's admissions and discharge procedures. “The faculty was wonderful helped friend kick habit,” this loved one wrote.
Feedback from loved ones on Facebook at the time of this writing was mixed, where the center has an average of three out of five stars from 11 users. Six of the reviewers gave five stars, and five of the reviewers gave just one star. A.M., in a representative positive comment, wrote, "My partner received wonderful counseling and psychiatric care regarding his alcohol/addictive tendencies." On the other hand, another loved one described rude customer service and a lack of returned phone calls, making it impossible to get her daughter's medication refilled.
According to the facility’s website, private insurance plans (accepted at 69.8 percent of Florida treatment facilities), Medicaid (accepted at 36 percent of Florida treatment facilities), and Medicare (accepted at 22..6 percent of Florida facilities) are all accepted. Self-pay options are also available. For clients who cannot afford medication, the organization offers a Patient Assistance Program, which helps clients obtain free samples via various pharmaceutical programs.
