Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services operates community and home-based mental health care programs throughout New Jersey. The Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) provides mobile psychiatric rehabilitation services to individuals with serious mental illness, including those struggling with secondary substance use disorders. Among Bridgeway’s three PACT sites in Union County is PACT I in Elizabeth.

To qualify for PACT through Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services, clients must be diagnosed with schizophrenia or a major depressive, bipolar, delusional, or schizoaffective disorder. They also must have received recent residential or hospital-based treatment that has not been effective. The program’s goals are self-management of mental illness, community integration, and sober living.

Services are provided at any time either in the client’s home or in a community setting. PACT staff will manage clients’ medication, facilitate life and job skills training, and provide treatment for mentally ill chemical abuse (MICA), a form of dual diagnosis. Fewer than half of New Jersey’s addiction treatment facilities (43 percent) provide employment counseling or training for clients.

Crisis response services are also available, and the program may be lifelong for some clients. Family involvement is encouraged.

According to the Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services - PACT website, the agency employs psychiatric nurses, vocational specialists, and dual diagnosis treatment specialists, for whom a master’s degree is preferred and certification or licensing in addiction counseling is required.

Feedback for Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services PACT in New Jersey was largely favorable at the time of this writing. The one alum polled by to date indicated that the program was very helpful, “welcoming, comfortable,” “easy and friendly.”

On a scale of one to five, they rated their likelihood to recommend the program to others five stars, granting the same rating for the staff’s level of training and experience, admissions and discharge procedures, affordability, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. Limited choices or inadequate personalization of programming was the one weakness reported. They rated family participation three stars.

Likewise on the Bridgeway official Facebook page, five individuals rated the facility 4.2 out of five stars on average. Written comments reflected more diverse opinions. One alum identified specific support they received, including for education, work, and independence. They cited “amazing people” throughout the organization. By contrast, a second alum described “a terrible place,” and one commenter elaborated that there was too much pressure on clients to “do it yourself,” indicating that they perceived the organization as doing “nothing” to help.[1]

Staff opinions followed several positive and critical trends, revealed in 14 reviews averaging 3.5 out of five stars on Indeed and 22 averaging 3.1 stars on Glassdoor, for Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services across New Jersey.[2] [3] The most common perception shared by former and current employees was of a great staff (committed, caring, hard working) and excellent learning environment. Nevertheless, nearly as many reported burnout or overloads, and several portrayed the company as outdated.

Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services receives state and federal funding, and PACT accepts Medicaid (which 60.8 percent of New Jersey’s 344 addiction treatment facilities do), as well as self-pay.

Great customer accommodations, welcoming and comfortable. Not many choices, everything is pre set and not patient oriented Very easy and friendly treatment, helped so much, and still helps after being finished.
