ABOUT BROOKWOOD BAPTIST MEDICAL CENTER — BIRMINGHAM
Brookwood Baptist Medical Center is a medical network that formed in 2015 from the merging of Baptist Health System and Brookwood Medical Center. It runs five hospitals and dozens of specialty centers in central Alabama.
This center five miles south of downtown Birmingham offers a wide variety of health services, including a psychiatric department that provides residential and outpatient care for adult (19 to 64 years old) and geriatric (over 60 years old) clients. Medical detox is available at the Talladega and Jasper locations.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment begins with an initial assessment and evaluation that helps staff determine the best course of care. Each individual is given a personalized care plan and referred to the appropriate care track.
Residential programming aims to treat co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders, eating disorders, and schizophrenia. Treatment includes daily therapy that may combine individual, group, and family therapy with nutritional counseling, occupational therapy, art therapy, animal therapy, and/or recreational therapy. The facility is also equipped to work with trauma.
Individualized aftercare plans are designed for each client and may include outpatient services such as the partial hospitalization program (PHP). The program lasts two to three weeks and offers six hours of sessions a day, including group, individual, and cognitive therapies.
According to Brookwood Baptist’s website, the treatment team includes doctors, therapists, nurses, case managers, social workers, and mental health associates.
