ABOUT BUTLER MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - DRUG AND ALCOHOL
Butler Memorial Hospital, located in Butler, Pa., 35 miles north of Pittsburgh, provides a full continuum of addiction treatment programs for adults seeking to overcome addiction. Through its Regional Recovery Center, the hospital offers short-term inpatient treatment as well as a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP). Medically-monitored detoxification services are also available here. The facility is one of only 4.5 percent of hospital-based programs in the state to provide on-site detoxification.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To determine an appropriate level of care and form an individualized treatment plan, patients undergo an initial substance abuse assessment. If a patient requires detoxification and stabilization, clients may be referred for short-term inpatient care followed by a less-intensive level of care. Medication-assisted treatment, such as Suboxone, may also be utilized to minimize the severity of withdrawal symptoms during detoxification.
Across the various levels of care, addiction treatment programming consists of individual therapy and group counseling sessions to address the underlying issues that may be contributing to addictive behavior. Per the facility’s webpage, patients also receive on- and off-site peer support, suggesting that treatment may follow the 12-step model of recovery. In addition, families are encouraged to attend counseling sessions and recovery education classes.
After inpatient or PHP care, patients may be encouraged to “step-down” to the hospital’s IOP for ongoing treatment. IOP sessions focus on relapse prevention techniques and are held in the morning and evening to accommodate patient schedules. In 2002, Butler Memorial Hospital introduced the Recovery Project, providing patients with an “informal setting where they can socialize and relax while learning about recovery.”
There is currently no information provided by the hospital regarding its treatment staff, however, the two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date appreciated the facility's staff. One alum shared five out of five stars for the amount of staff support, whereas the other alum gave five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, though the pair of alumni shared four or five stars for both the facility's accommodations and quality of meals.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
To date, the two former clients praised most aspects of the facility. They felt that the facility offered little to no holistic services, but had a staff who were well-trained, experienced, available, and respectful. Offering five-star ratings for the facility ability to treat co-occurring disorders, one alum wrote: "Overall a good hospital."
Yet on Yellowpages.com and on Facebook, Butler Memorial Hospital fared rather poorly, as a whole. While three reviewers across these sites gave the facility five out of five stars, 10 others complained of an unprofessional staff and of frustratingly long waiting times. However, no reviews focused on the addiction treatment services.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Despite these negative trends, the hospital does have an excellent average rating of 4.1 out of five stars from 36 staff reviewers on Indeed, many of whom cited an exciting, encouraging, and professional work environment in the hospital, as a whole. However, one mental health technician did feel that the management was not supportive.
Butler Memorial Hospital accepts a wide range of private insurance plans - including Aetna, Humana, MultiPlan, and Cigna - as well as Medicaid, Medicare, and military insurance.
