ABOUT C.A.R.E. ST. PETER
Part the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the Community Addiction Recovery Enterprise (C.A.R.E.) is an addiction treatment network that operates the only seven state-operated rehab facilities in Minnesota (two percent of all rehabs in the state). C.A.R.E.'s St. Peter location provides inpatient- and outpatient-based treatment for adults struggling with substance misuse and co-occurring disorders.
According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 67.7 percent of treatment facilities in Minnesota offer regular outpatient treatment, while 36.5 percent offer non-hospital inpatient (residential) treatment of some kind. Other C.A.R.E. locations offer a variety of different treatment programming, such as intensive outpatient programs, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid dependency, gender-specific treatment, and culturally-specialized inpatient services for Native Americans.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To determine an appropriate level of care, clients may first participate in a substance misuse and psychiatric assessment. C.A.R.E.’s individualized programming utilizes evidence-based treatment modalities such as motivational interviewing (MI) to help clients set and achieve treatment goals.
According to C.A.R.E.'s online brochure, the St. Peter location provides consultation and education in community academic settings, as well as inpatient services for and in consultation with the local drug court. A 2017 SAMHSA survey indicates that 23.6 percent of rehabs in Minnesota offer specialized treatment for criminal justice clients. Reviewer feedback also indicated the location provides 12-step facilitation.
According to the program's online brochure, all staff are trained in motivational interviewing. Further information on staff is limited, but the four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the matter gave a favorable rating to the facility's staff.

Though there is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its accommodations and amenities, the four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the matters gave above-average ratings to relevant categories.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing both provided mixed opinions. One anonymous alum, though they provided a two-star rating for the facility’s accommodations and a one-star rating for its food, offered five-star ratings for the effectiveness of lead counselors and the respect shown to clients. “The staff were knowledgeable about things, they shared their experiences,” they wrote.
The other anonymous alum agreed that counselors were experienced and helpful, but offered one-star ratings for the facility’s counseling options, treatment of co-occurring disorders, and connectivity. The alum also criticized the facility’s reliance on the 12 Steps and reported issues of understaffing.
On CiteHealth, C.A.R.E. has an average rating of two out of five stars based on nine reviews to date. Reviewers on CiteHealth frequently criticized staff. "They never paid attention to anyone the staff are not nice to anyone," one anonymous alum wrote in a representative review.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive feedback. All three reviewers gave four-star ratings to the facility's family participation, connectivity, and counseling options.
One anonymous loved one wrote in a representative review, “Its a good quiet place to get well,” though they did cite security concerns as a facility weakness. The three loved ones also had differing opinions on the facility's exercise and leisure options as well as its holistic offerings.
WHAT STAFF SAY
The sole employee polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing offered four- and five-star ratings for all aspects of the facility, but echoed alumni opinions concerning understaffing. The anonymous staffer wrote: “Not enough help they need more opportunities.”
C.A.R.E. is state-funded facility. Though information on payment options is limited, the four individuals polled by Rehabs.com on the matter gave favorable ratings for the facility’s cost.
