Areas of Specialization
Facility Highlights
Participants of this therapy learn to regulate emotions and build insight into emotional, biological, and cognitive reactivity. This will allow the individual to challenge their reactivity with effective coping techniques and identify opportunities for positive change.
This form of therapy helps the individual identify self-defeating beliefs and negative thought processes that contribute to addiction, and then begin to challenge and change those thought processes. Changing one’s thinking will in turn change how one feels and behaves
This type of therapy helps individuals learn the power of self-regulation. They learn how to manage large emotional responses through being truly in the moment, on purpose.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA HIGHLANDS ADDICTION TREATMENT
California Highlands Addiction Treatment is a luxury residential rehab facility for adults struggling with chemical dependency, as well as co-occurring disorders. Located on 32 serene and secluded acres outside of Palm Springs, Calif., the facility also provides holistic detoxification services on-site to minimize the discomfort of withdrawal.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Before admission, clients participate in brief phone interview. Typically, clients then begin treatment within 24 hours of initial contact. If necessary, California Highlands Addiction Treatment provides a holistic detoxification protocol that emphasizes physical recovery through healthy meals, exercise, rest, as well as methods designed to help manage pain and stress, such as yoga and mindful meditation.
Once the client is stabilized, residents begin core programming, which includes a range of holistic and evidence-based treatment approaches. While residents must commit to at least 30 days of treatment, the average length of residential treatment program is 45 days, but may last up to 60 days.
During the residential program, clients participate in full days of therapeutic programming, from breakfast at 6:00 a.m. to an hour-long period set aside for relaxing before sleep at 7:00 p.m. Depending on individual needs and circumstances, a typical day in treatment incorporates several group counseling sessions, individual therapy, psycho-education classes, personal time for relaxation and reflection, exercise sessions, and recreational activities.
Among the evidence-based treatment modalities, California Highlands Addiction Treatment utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing to help clients set obtaining goals and identify the links between thinking patterns and behavior. Family therapy sessions are also available. To treat dually diagnosed clients, the facility may utilize eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) sessions to minimize the client's response to traumatic events, and clients may also attend educational classes on various mental health topics.
Along with evidence-based approaches, clients also participate in art therapy sessions, nature hikes, guided meditation, and yoga sessions. Before the client is discharge, clinicians help the individual to create a personalized discharge plan, which may involve transitioning into an outpatient-based program, obtaining sober housing, and locating community-based resources.
