Carilion Clinic operates multiple behavioral health programs in Virginia, including one within Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. The facility provides psychiatric and behavioral health services to adults, adolescents, and children, including inpatient and outpatient programs for substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health disorders. The facility is also one of only 13 hospital-based treatment centers in Virginia (just six percent of all hospital-based treatment facilities in the state) to provide medical detox.

Inpatient treatment is provided on the campus of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for adults and at a separate facility for adolescents and children.

Individuals in treatment, both in the hospital and through outpatient programs, have access to cognitive behavioral therapy and individual and group therapy, as well as specialized modalities such as electroconvulsive therapy for chronic depression. Clients living in rural areas are also able to access counseling for psychosocial counseling via telemedicine services in their primary care providers' offices.

Carilion Clinic also has an office-based medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program for clients battling opioid dependency, though it's unclear if it's offered at this location. In 2017, 7,326 individuals were receiving MAT in Virginia, making up about 1.8 percent of individuals receiving MAT at a national level.

Roanoke Memorial Hospital is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. According to the health care network's website, the psychiatric and behavioral health treatment team includes board-certified psychiatrists and doctoral-level therapists, some with specialized training in adolescent and geriatric care.

They seem to genuinely care," wrote Ramona in a representative review.

Complaints included slow service, apathetic staff, and frequently canceled appointments. "This is a sad excuse for a mental health facility," Jennifer wrote in a review representative of negative feedback. "It preys on lower income patients and provides a service that is mediocre and negligent, at best."

The center's website indicates that Carilion Clinic accepts most major insurance plans. It also accepts Medicaid and Medicare, the latter of which is accepted by half of all substance abuse treatment facilities in Virginia.
