Princeton, Texas, 45 miles north of Dallas, is the rural setting for Caron Texas, a serene, 43-acre facility with a highly rated multidisciplinary approach to residential treatment of addiction and associated behavioral issues. Caron also has a strict gender-separation policy, which applies to meals, housing, and extracurricular activities, as well as therapy and treatment.

Caron’s approach to treatment is holistic in nature and based on the 12-Steps. Each client is given an individual treatment plan that incorporates various mental and behavioral therapies, spiritual development, physical fitness, and nutrition.

The men’s program addresses gender-related issues including anger, control, and compartmentalizing feelings, while the women’s program deals with issues connected to shame, parenting, sexual trauma, and body image. Caron Texas also recently launched a pioneering program for young men aged 18-25, which focuses on issues connected to identity, entitlement, and narcissism that often plague the transition from adolescence to adulthood. A one-day satellite family program for children and teens (aged 7-15) also strives to help young family members explore their feelings about addiction, and tries to cultivate in them the understanding that addiction is a disease.

Caron is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The staff-to-client ratio is 1:3.

The treatment facilities and accommodations are contained under one roof: a sprawling, geometrically pillared building with modern, colorful lounges and a high-ceilinged “Great Room” anchored by a staggering fireplace.

Amenities at Caron include a state-of-the-art, 14,000 square foot fitness center and an outdoor pool. Zumba and tai-chi are among the recreational options, along with weight training and aerobic exercises. A four-star executive chef prepares meals, which are also highly rated.

Several alumni polled by described the mode of treatment at Caron Texas as “tough love.” Rooms must be kept tidy, a lesson for some in “humility.” Caron’s emphasis on education is also highly regarded. One anonymous alum reported to “Caron educated me on the disease of addiction. They gave me hope for a future life of sobriety, which I never believed was possible.” Fellow alum Cameron said: "It was a great experience between me and my loved ones, the food is great and so is the staff very friendly and most of them have been where you are. Great place to get help."

But some reviewers had less positive experiences. J.W. told "I knew going in it was AA based, but expected that to be just one aspect of the program. Very little private counselor time."

The average stay is 30 days, at a cost of $30,000–$35,000 for a double occupancy room with a private bathroom; a limited number of private rooms are available for an extra fee. Caron also offers financial assistance to qualifying clients; it granted $16 million in scholarships during the 2013–14 fiscal year.

No professional phycologist care. Group therapy was awful... 12 Step program was performed very unfairly. Food is excellent. Service staff is excellent. This is a detox facility that should not be mistaken for a rehab/therapy facility. It is their expectation that you have family to support you. If you don\'t, then the program will fail. It is their expectation that you take up smoking cigarettes in order to hang with your cohorts in the gazebo for group therapy. If you don\'t, then the program will fail. Non-smokers who do not fit into this environment will be criticized and get no beneficial counseling. Again... The food is excellent. But good food doesn\'t cure addiction. :-/

This place is all about the money and your insurance. I never saw my counselor, the food was terrible, and I didn\'t learn anything different. STAY AWAY!!! I think there are some people that work there that care but they all seem overwhelmed and didn\'t have time for me.
