ABOUT CATALYST BEHAVIORAL SERVICES — COMMUNITY HOUSE

Oklahoma City’s Catalyst Behavioral Services operates several locations that provide a continuum of care for those struggling with substance use and mental health disorders. One of these, Community House, is the state’s longest-running residential rehab. The facility emphasizes individualized programming, offering dual diagnosis treatment as well as on-site medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Out-of-state clients are accepted.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients begin treatment at Catalyst Behavioral Services Community House with a comprehensive assessment, which covers medical needs as well as mental health. According to a federal directory of treatment facilities, detox services for alcohol and drug addiction are available, and ongoing MAT for opioid dependency utilizes buprenorphine.

Treatment plans typically involve individual and group therapy, and the facility’s website emphasizes the importance of its weekend family visits to understand and support each client’s recovery progress.

Among the modalities practiced at Community House are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, rational emotive behavior therapy, and 12-step facilitation. An array of specialized groups are offered, including gender-specific groups and groups addressing trauma, anger management, age-oriented experiences, LGBT clients, and court-referred clients.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Catalyst Behavioral Services website reports a 1:8 staff-to-client ratio for groups. Throughout the agency, treatment team members include a psychiatrist and licensed therapists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The 55-bed Community House facility is located in the Culbertson East Highland neighborhood of OKC. Bedrooms are semi-private and the campus includes multiple entertainment spaces, exercise equipment, and volleyball and basketball courts. A staff dietitian plans resident meals.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

All three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date would recommend treatment at Catalyst Behavioral Services Community House, rating treatment effectiveness four or five out of five stars each. Former clients tended to represent the rehab program as strong but limited in its programming, and two described the facility as run-down.

Holistic offerings received just one- and two-star ratings, although alumni gave two four-star ratings for counseling options and flexibility, indicated therapy could be individualized.

Each alumni highlighted counselors as a strength, while rating the staff’s level of training and experience three to five stars. Staff were described as empathetic (“people who have been where we have been”), committed, and helpful.

Likewise, a majority of seven reviews on CiteHealth were positive, averaging 3.7 out of five stars for Community House. Feedback echoed Rehabs.com reviewers' appreciation for the staff’s availability and support. One alum concurred with reports of a poorly maintained facility.[1]

The two Google reviews specifically for Community House both offered maximum five-star ratings, with no additional comments.[2] A majority of 13 reviews for Catalyst Behavioral Services were also favorable, averaging 3.5 stars. They also followed trends, citing an understanding and welcoming staff and effective treatment outcomes. The sole written criticism centered on issues with boundaries and follow-up.[3]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com agreed with alumni who characterized the staff as knowledgeable and “always on hand.” They gave four stars apiece for treatment effectiveness and staff experience, and three for family participation. By contrast, two CiteHealth reviews from family members criticized Community House. One reported a lack of supervision and another described a “Trashy, unorganized, old falling apart building.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

Staffer feedback for Community House and other Catalyst Behavioral Services programs reflected perspectives similar to other reviewers. A single Rehabs.com reviewer highlighted the rehab center’s wide-reaching support, including financial coverage for treatment. Five Indeed reviews averaged 3.6 out of five stars, generally reflecting respect for clients and co-workers.[4]

FINANCING

According to the Catalyst Behavioral Services website, the organization accepts most health insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare. Staff provide assistance in finding funding for Oklahoma residents, and two individuals polled by Rehabs.com noted their access to state-funding, while another mentioned a payment plan.

CONCLUSION

In December 2017, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections canceled a contract with Catalyst for one of the agency’s men’s halfway houses. Wide regional coverage and an AP story in US News reported that a former resident’s death was due to “lax oversight.” No comment from Catalyst representatives was available in the articles or on the facility’s website.

It is a state funded facility so it is kind of run down looking, but the people are great and you can stay as long as you need to.

Great Counselors, Compassion, Family Days, Outside Meetings. After I left a turn over in Counselors, several employees relocated that were great assets to the Rehab. Ive been to 7 Treatment facilities, I surrendered and was willing to follow those 5 suggestions that guarantee success. 3 years has passed I now recide at a wonderful place. I have my own place with my daughter and enjoy fellowship with like minded people and accountibility. I have committed meetings that I love to go to and I finally see what I must do to be happy and I pay it forward.

Knowledgeable staff are always on hand. Nutritional meals are given to patients. The facility could stop trying to encourage group counseling over individual counseling. This facility I would highly recommend. The knowledgeable staff are always on hand. This is especially nice, since it's a residential treatment facility. It's a very nice facility, which has a variety of different offers for the patients. This is also the longest continually running residential treatment facility in downtown Oklahoma, that I know of.

They have a payment program that can start after treatment, when you get back on your feet. There were counselors who really care and go out of their way to dedicate themselves to helping those struggling with addiction and mental disorders. This facility is not in a really nice expensive place, resides in a pretty run down neighborhood, and doesn't have the funding the expensive rehabs have, but this facility has the people who have been where we have and seen what we have seen, they have the knowledge, wisdom, strength and tools to teach us how to deal with ourselves and become better people that aren't hurting ourselves or our loved ones any longer.

Ethical decision making, focus on client care, management leadership, holistically trained clinical staff, aftercare planning, strong groups, unity based, long-term, and more. Great place to change your life and regain self-respect. This program uses therapeutic community philosophies to help enhance the co-occurring individualized treatment.
