Located in Auburn, Maine, Catholic Charities St. Francis Recovery Center is a private, non-profit residential treatment center for adult men seeking treatment for substance abuse or co-occurring disorders .The facility also provides outpatient counseling services for both men and women. Detox is not offered on-site.


St. Francis Recovery Center uses a holistic approach that address the mind, spirit, and body throughout its programming. The primary mode of treatment is its residential program for men, which nearly 35% of facilities in the state offer.

The men's residential program is a safe place for individuals needing housing and support while making the adjustment to sober life. Clients stay for a maximum of six weeks. Men can be admitted into the program after an initial screening process, and residents must be clean before entering the program.

The residential program has 24-hour staff coverage. Services offered in the program include individual and group counseling, family education groups, support services, referrals to community agencies, self-help immersion (such as 12-Step), help with daily living skills, and drug screenings.

The center's outpatient program teaches empowering skills and behaviors, such as how to manage symptoms, build a relapse prevention plan, develop skills to deal with trauma and anger, and practice self-regulation and mindfulness.

Outpatient programming consists of diagnosis and evaluations, individual and family counseling, group therapy, early recovery treatment, relapse prevention, solution-focused motivational therapy, and driver education.

The alum gave three out of five stars for its affordability, exercise and leisure opportunities, and if they’d recommend the program. "Group therapies were a strength but it is too small," they wrote.
