ABOUT CEDAR CREST HOSPITAL & RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER
Set on 33 acres outside of Belton, Texas, Cedar Crest Hospital is a residential and outpatient treatment center for adults and youth struggling with mental and behavioral health disorders, including substance use disorder. Cedar Crest is one of the 8.8 percent of hospital-based residential rehabs in Texas offering medically monitored detox. It's also among the 20.9 percent of Texas-based facilities to offer dedicated programming for members of the military.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
New clients undergo an initial psychiatric evaluation, which is used to develop personalized treatment plans. The center can treat substance use disorder, mental health disorders, and dual diagnosis. Clients who need to detox may be administered medication to ease withdrawal, and medication may also be used long-term to treat any co-occurring mental health disorders.
Cedar Crest provides evidence-based therapies and treatments in individual, group, and family settings. Specifically, the center uses a Hazelden-inspired approach to offer a program rooted in both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and the 12-Steps.
Clinical programming is rounded out by holistic pursuits such as yoga, recreational therapy, and art and music therapy. The program emphasizes teamwork, community involvement, accountability, and the healthy expression of emotions. Programming for children and adolescents focuses on family counseling, recreational therapy, and improving life skills.
The Military Patriot Program offers a short-term acute inpatient hospitalization program, as well as treatment tracks dedicated to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chemical dependency, and dual diagnosis.
For those who need intensive treatment but who already have somewhere to stay, partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) are offered from the Belton campus. Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are offered from an outpatient facility 18 miles west of Belton, in Killeen, Texas.
The hospital employs doctors, nurse practitioners, therapists, psychiatrists, and a dietitian. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center four out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The 33-acre campus offers a gym, an exercise room, and a swimming pool. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility three stars for its accommodations, cleanliness, and exercise/leisure offerings, and four stars for its meals and nutrition.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from Cedar Crest alumni, and the center has mostly negative feedback on secondary sites, with average ratings of 1.9 out of five stars based on 97 reviews on Google, 1.5 stars based on 10 reviews on Yelp (plus six "not recommended" reviews, most of them for one star), and five stars based on four opinions on Facebook (where the facility can manage its own page), plus a single five-star rating on YellowPages.com.
The positive reviewers praised the helpful, caring staff, and noting that the center had been effective. "The staff is understanding, kind, and attentive. They try many different types of therapy to find something that works," Ally wrote in a typical comment on Google.
However, numerous reviewers complained of poor treatment from staff and inadequate programming: "Some of the staff were great but others were the absolute worst... In general, they treated us like we were in prison honestly. I think i only saw the psychiatrist once, and the one group therapy we had was a joke," Jeremy wrote in a representative review on Google.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
"They are good with kids and have behavior theripy. They are a little to strict," was the appraisal of the single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date. The reviewer gave the facility four stars for its counseling options, three stars for its holistic offerings and family participation, and two stars for its ability to treat co-occurring disorders, and indicated that they would recommend Cedar Crest.
However, secondary sites contain many very negative reviews from loved ones, frequently parents unhappy with the center's treatment both of their child and of themselves as family members. "This place is a joke. Worst experience ever! NO communication what so ever and if you want to know what's going on with your child you have to call and keep getting transfered and transfered," Arisa wrote in a representative review on Yelp.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Rehabs.com hasn't yet polled any Cedar Crest staff, but the center has a three-star rating and two four out of five-star ratings on Indeed at the time of this writing. The reviewers repeatedly spoke highly of their work with clients, painting a picture of a dedicated treatment team. However, more than one staffer complained of inadequate support for staff, which could impact the quality of care provided. "There were long and hard hours... There was little clinical support (e.g. having clinical position being reviewed or supported)," one anonymous reviewer wrote in a representative comment.
Cedar Crest Hospital & Residential Treatment Center accepts Medicaid and Medicare (accepted at 57.1 and 17.9 percent of Texas-based facilities, respectively). The hospital is also in-network with private insurers including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and TriCare. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center's affordability gave it two out of five stars.
