Centerstone Addiction Recovery Center Philosophy

Jefferson Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center (JADAC) provides medically supervised inpatient detoxification and residential treatment to Kentucky residents struggling from chemical dependency. During inpatient detoxification, participants receive medical evaluation, withdrawal assistance, counseling, addiction education, and resource referrals. Residents receive counseling, life skills coursework, and 12-Step services. JADAC also provides outpatient treatment for up to twelve weeks, after which time clients are referred to aftercare treatment that provides services such as group counseling and medical assessment to continue their road on recovery.

Areas of Specialization

  • Medical Detoxification
Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

ABOUT CENTERSTONE ADDICTION RECOVERY CENTER

Formerly known as the Jefferson Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center (JADAC), the Centerstone Addiction Recovery Center is an 80-bed treatment facility that provides medical detox, inpatient care, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), which are available at 36.8 percent of Kentucky-based facilities, and aftercare for adults struggling with chemical dependency.

Located in central Louisville, Ky. and a division of Centerstone Kentucky — a regional treatment provider with facilities in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, and Tennessee — the center is among the 28.4 percent of Kentucky facilities that offer specialized programming for pregnant clients. Centerstone is among the 51.8 percent of Kentucky-based addiction treatment centers that operate as private nonprofits.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Centerstone adheres to the 12-step model of addiction and recovery. In addition, the facility utilizes medication-assisted treatment(MAT), offering medications alongside counseling to address the physiological components of addiction. Medications used at the facility include buprenorphine (which is used at 16.2 percent of Kentucky-based facilities), naltrexone, mood stabilizers, and anti-depressants.

Upon admission, clients undergo an initial substance use assessment to determine the most appropriate level of care. Clients who need to detox receive medical monitoring, lab work, and a medical exam, plus the possibility of medication-assisted treatment using Suboxone, for clients struggling with opioid addiction.

For clients who require residential or intensive care longer than detox, there are two options. An inpatient program offers short-term care, while a residential program, also offered from the hospital's location, offers long-term care for eight to nine months, or even longer. Both programs use individual, group, and family counseling as well as MAT, when appropriate.

Once a client completes an inpatient program, clinicians provide discharge planning and referrals to community services. The center also offers a specialized case management service for pregnant women called Project Link. In some cases, clinicians may encourage residential clientele to use the facility’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) as “step-down” aftercare service. IOPs are offered in the daytime or the evening, to suit a variety of schedules.

Excellent counselors and techs. They honestly care about clients lives. Helped me 100%. They do need more activities like art therapy. But overall one of the best in Kentucky.

It allows the families to join in on the treatment They don't make the patient feel embarrassed about being in the facility and they try as hard as they can to make the patients feel at home and proud of the treatment they are receiving.

I enjoyed their food and their policy that if you are not feeling well they let you sleep and then they will come in and check on you. They also used 12-Steps and I was fond of that; however, they could have used more family involvement.

They don't help you at all; they just detox you and send you on your way.

They have people who care about helping people beat their addiction. I would like for them to have more activities for their clients. They do a fine job and this is not an easy job to do so you have to be dedicated.

A little over crowded, I would have liked more smoke breaks. More leisure time. Activities to stay busy not just lessons. Food was good. Beds were horribly uncomfortable. Would like to have more physical opportunities and less forced meeting. More leisure time

There was nothing offered there outside of class, counseling and food. Spent too much time watching movies that had nothing to do with recovery. Absolutely no offering for art, creativity or physical activity. Plenty of time to sit still, though, which I guess is something I needed to learn to do. I was able to gather a few weeks sober there as well. Most of the staff really cared and made time to talk if you needed but it would have been nice to have some instruments or art therapy and at least some level of physical activity.
