CHI Healthcare Network- Colonial House Programs and Services Philosophy

Colonial House creates a stable, nurturing environment, which is conducive to, not only, allowing each client to develop healthy, productive, drug free lives, but also to assist them in aquiring the skills to achieve sobriety and maintain a chemical free lifestyle. In order to maintain a chemical free lifestyle, we believe in not only guiding our clients through each and every step to becoming clean and sober, but also to acknowledge and resolve any underlying issues, which are so often overlooked.

Areas of Specialization

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

  • Trauma & Associative Awareness Therapy (AAT)
Associative Awareness Therapy (AAT) uses the brain’s innate ability to adapt to change in a healing way, essentially “retraining” the brain to respond differently to familiar memories of trauma or pain.

Serving adult, the Colonial House also offers an intensive outpatient (IOP) program, placing it amongst the 261 (49.4 percent) facilities in the state with this offering. However, clients must be alcohol- and drug-free prior to admission, and detoxification services are not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Colonial House is 12-step based, and the residential program is designed to last 90 days. During residential treatment, clients participate in individual counseling, group therapy, and relapse prevention workshops, as well as attend lectures and life skills training classes on a range of topics, such as anger management, self-esteem, coping skills, stress management, and health and wellness.

In addition, clients attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings daily and participate in a work-therapy program, which consists of jobs that aid in the general upkeep of the facility. A family education workshop is offered for loved ones, and family members are encouraged to participate in counseling with clients during residential care.

Outpatient offerings include a six-week intensive outpatient program (IOP) that meets three times a week, a 12-week relapse prevention track that meets once a week, and gender-specific men's and women's trauma groups that meet once a week for 24 weeks. Clients may also participate individual, couples or family counseling on an outpatient basis.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the five alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, two gave Colonial House positive reviews, two gave the facility mixed reviews, and one gave the center a negative review. Positive feedback praised the facility's solid treatment, quality of counseling, and adherence to the 12-step model; however, Andrew, the one negative reviewer, gave the facility just one out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness and commented that it was too much like a work release program.

However, alum Jody offered five-star ratings for the respect shown to clients and the effectiveness of lead counselors. "I can't say enough good about this rehab! I was given all the tools I needed to succeed!" Jody wrote.

Colonial House received one negative review on CiteHealth as of this writing.[1] The anonymous reviewer gave the facility one out of five stars for its care, its staff, and its promptness, and two stars for its physical facility. "The main reason to avoid this facility is due to the lack of professional care," the reviewer wrote. "This facility mostly accepts court ordered individuals and they are paid by the County/State. They have no accountability to the patient nor do they care about actual success."

Contrastingly, the outpatient program in particular received three perfect five-star ratings on Google to date.[2] The facility's Facebook page, which it can manage, also has a high average rating of 4.7 out of five stars from 13 reviewers to date.[3] Most written comments credited the facility with being life-saving."Awesome staff, great facility. "Very firm with patients, no foolishness," wrote one anonymous loved one in a representative review. Another loved one added, "Good personnel who are very helpful," but felt there was a lack of individualized care.

Despite giving a four-star rating for the level of family participation, one loved one critiqued, "Didn't allow enough contact with people on the outside." However, overall, all four reviewers indicated that they would recommend Colonial House to others.

A real shame places like this exist. Poor staff, it's basically like work release. I'm not sure what they think they are doing to help people.
