ABOUT CHOCTAW NATION OF OKLAHOMA

Located in Durant, Okl., the behavioral health department of Choctaw Nation Health Services Authority provides both residential and outpatient programs to Choctaw Nation eligible clients. In addition to six outpatient clinics, there are two residential programs: a short-term co-ed rehab and a long-term women's center that treats pregnant and postpartum women. The latter is one of only 52 substance abuse treatment facilities in Oklahoma (just 27 percent) to provide services for pregnant and postpartum women.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All of Choctaw Nation's treatment services are holistic, 12-step based, and integrate relevant Native American activities and perspectives. Some services are available in American Indian/Alaskan Native languages, an option offered by just 12.5 percent of treatment facilities in Oklahoma.

Choctaw Nation clients can access short-term residential treatment for addiction at the Recovery Center, which offers a 28-day program built on individual, group, and family counseling, holistic approaches, 12-step facilitation, and educational classes.

Choctaw women who are pregnant or have children less than a year old may stay at the Chi Hullo Li residential facility, which is among the 20 percent of Oklahoma treatment facilities to provide long-term treatment. Residents participate in an array of activities addressing holistic wellness, from spiritual and physical care to social recovery, through life-skill training and education.

Outpatient programming is available at the main health care clinic and at satellite clinics in McAlester, Broken Bow, Hugo, Poteau, and near Hartshorne. Outpatient services include case management and therapy for both substance use and mental health disorders to help clients develop coping and problem-solving skills.

Strengths: staff, food, phone calls, atmosphere, t@taught self worth and heritage. Weaknesses: Lack of/not enough Visitation and participation of family members. Really liked tribal/native aspects. Think more family participation was needed. No costs because of tribal affiliation.

I have trouble with too much structure and communal living situations, so I had difficulties there that a lot of people would not have.
