Christ Hospital, a CarePoint Health medical center in Jersey City, offers standard and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) to adults and adolescents struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. In addition to special programs for youth, women with children have access to focused care. The hospital also operates an inpatient behavioral health unit, where detoxification and acute counseling services are available. CarePoint, which operates two additional New Jersey hospitals, prioritizes preventive care and education.

According to the CarePoint Health website, substance abuse treatment is concentrated mainly in Christ Hospital’s three outpatient programs. Low-intensity dual diagnosis treatment for adults with co-occurring disorders is offered through once-a-month individual counseling sessions, which clients are encouraged to supplement with weekly group sessions. Called the Outpatient Drug Free Program, this approach addresses coping skills, trauma, and anger management, among other concerns.

Women who have children involved in the state Department of Youth and Family Services have access to daycare and transportation services while attending Project Second Chance at Christ Hospital, an intensive outpatient program. Fewer than eight percent (29) of New Jersey's 371 treatment facilities provide child care.

Adolescents can participate in addiction and substance misuse services through two programs. The Youth Comprehensive Treatment Program is a dual diagnosis IOP for individuals involved in the court system between the ages 14 and 17. Programming for at-risk adolescents, youth who may not yet be addicted or progressed into substance abuse, is offered through Christ Hospital Adolescent Treatment (CHAT). Clients attend educational and therapeutic groups twice weekly and individual and family sessions once a month.

Christ Hospital also operates a 16-week DUI Education Program.

Christ Hospital's behavioral health and substance use treatment staff referenced on the CarePoint website include master’s level therapists and social workers, some with licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) credentials, and registered and student nurses.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni. However, Yelp and Google review trends, through more than 150 reviews for the hospital as a whole, reveal frustration with costs and what several former patients represented as unprofessionalism. Both sites’ reviews were split between critical and positive. Among the aspects reviewers praised were the timeliness of treatment and the empathy of nurses.[1] [2]

The sole loved polled by to date provided moderately positive feedback. They noted the success of treatment, rated the facility’s cleanliness and maintenance five out of five stars, and reported that the staff was caring, awarding four stars for their training and experience.

According to the center’s website, Christ Hospital is covered in-network by several insurance plans, including Medicaid, Horizon BCBS, and Magnacare.

As reported in a March 2018 story by Fios News, Christ Hospital has committed to improving access to healthcare for people in the LGBTQ community, through partnering with a local Pride Center and providing cultural competency training to staff.
